Demonstration of long-range correlations via susceptibility measurements in a one-dimensional superconducting Josephson spin chain

Daniel Tennant, Xi Dai, A. J. Martinez +20 more

Abstract Spin chains have long been considered an effective medium for long-range interactions, entanglement generation, and quantum state transfer. In this work, we explore the properties of a spin chain implemented with superconducting flux circuits, designed to act as a connectivity medium between two superconducting qubits. The susceptibility of the chain is probed and shown to support long-range, cross-chain correlations. In addition, interactions between the two end qubits, mediated by the coupler chain, are demonstrated. This work has direct applicability in near term quantum annealing processors as a means of generating long-range, coherent coupling between qubits.

Nonlocal Long-Range Synchronization of Planar Josephson-Junction Arrays

Sergey Grebenchuk, Roger Cattaneo, V. M. Krasnov

We study arrays of planar $\mathrm{Nb}$ Josephson junctions with contacts to intermediate electrodes, which allow measurements of individual junctions and, thus, provide an insight into intricate array dynamics. We observe strong indications for array phase locking, despite a significant interjunction separation. Several unusual phenomena are reported, such as a bistable critical current with reentrant superconductivity upon switching of nearby junctions; and ``incorrect'' Shapiro steps, occurring at mixing frequencies between the external rf radiation and the internal Josephson frequency in nearby junctions. Our results reveal a surprisingly strong and long-range interjunction interaction, which is attributed to nonlocality of planar-junction electrodynamics, caused by the long-range spreading of stray electromagnetic fields. The nonlocality greatly enhances the high-frequency interjunction coupling and enables large-scale synchronization. Therefore, we conclude that planar geometry is advantageous for the realization of coherent Josephson electronics.

Quantum phase diagram of a superconducting quantum dots array

S. Sarkar

We present the quantum phase diagram of a superconducting quantum dots array. Superconducting quantum dots are connected through Josephson junctions. We study the effect of finite-range Josephson coupling and also finite-range interactions between the dots. Our field-theoretical study predicts different kinds of phase near the charge degeneracy point. We predict two different kinds of repulsive Luttinger liquid phase and also the possibilities of different density wave instabilities from the inter-play of long-range interaction between the dots and Cooper pair density. We observe different multicritical points with interesting phases.
