Ultrashort pulse coherence properties in coherent linear amplifiers

Laleh Mokhtarpour, Sergey A. Ponomarenko

We examine coherence properties of small-area, intrinsically stationary statistical pulses propagating in amplifying media in the vicinity of an optical resonance. Any such medium acts as a coherent linear amplifier, amplifying and reshaping the pulse. We show that an initially nearly incoherent Gaussian Schell-model pulse becomes almost fully coherent and its state of coherence becomes nearly uniform across the temporal profile as the pulse propagates into the amplifying medium.

Theory of linearly chirped quasi-parabolic ultrashort pulses from coherent nonlinear optical amplifiers

Optical pulse reshaping in nonlinear coherent two-level amplifiers may lead to time-compressed, quasi-parabolic intensity profiles with linear chirp. Nonlinear coherent amplifiers may generate pulses with spectral width larger than the linear gain bandwidth.

Propagation dynamics of coherence and nonlinear mixing in an ionizing three-level medium

Roberto Buffa, Marco V. Tognetti, M. Anscombe +1 more

We show through modeling the effect of pulse propagation upon the evolution of coherence and nonlinear frequency mixing in an ionizing three-level medium. This work extends earlier studies, in which the coherence dephasing due to photoelectrons was considered, by including the effects of pulse reshaping as the coupled fields propagate through the medium. In this way we establish a realistic model that enables us to predict qualitatively the performance of experimental coherence enhanced frequency mixing schemes.
