Potts model specific heat critical exponents

Robert W. Zwanzig, John D. Ramshaw

A series expansion for the free energy of the q-state Potts model on a square lattice is used to estimate the specific heat critical exponents. The analysis is based on a series transformation which was suggested by the known solution of the two-state Potts (Ising) model, and which makes optimum use of the duality theorem. The transformed series is quite smooth. Neville tables yield the estimates alpha (2)=0.0001+or-0.0003 for the two-state model, alpha (3)=0.296+or-0.002 for the three-state model, and alpha (4)=0.45+or-0.02 for the four-state model. The value for alpha (3) differs considerably from one reported by Straley and Fisher (1973), and substantially improves compliance with the Rushbrooke inequality.

Critical Behavior of a Three-State Potts Model on a Voronoi Lattice

F. W. S. Lima, U.M.S. Costa, Murilo Pereira de Almeida +1 more

We use the single-histogram technique to study the critical behavior of the three-state Potts model on a (random) Voronoi-Delaunay lattice with size ranging from 250 to 8 000 sites. We consider the effect of an exponential decay of the interactions with the distance, J(r) = J0 exp (-ar), with a > 0, and observe that this system seems to have critical exponents γ and ν which are different from the respective exponents of the three-state Potts model on a regular square lattice. However, the ratio γ/ν remains essentially the same. We find numerical evidences (although not conclusive, due to the small range of system size) that the specific heat on this random system behaves as a power-law for a=0 and as a logarithmic divergence for a=0.5 and a=1.0

High-precision determination of universal amplitude ratios for the q=3 Potts model in two dimensions

Щур Лев Николаевич, Bertrand Berche, P. Butera

Monte Carlo simulations and series expansions data for the energy, specific heat, magnetization, and susceptibility of the three-state Potts model on the square lattice are analyzed in the vicinity of the critical point in order to estimate universal combinations of critical amplitudes. We estimate these amplitudes using the correction-to-scaling exponents predicted by conformal field theory. We also form effective ratios of the observables close to the critical point and analyze how they approach the universal critical-amplitude ratios. In particular, using the duality relation, we show analytically that for the Potts model with a number of states $q\ensuremath{\leqslant}4$, the effective ratio of the energy critical amplitudes always approaches unity linearly with respect to the reduced temperature. This fact leads to the prediction of relations among the amplitudes of correction-to-scaling terms of the specific heat in the low- and high-temperature phases. We present numerical and analytical support for the form of the first two correction-to-scaling terms. Our results for the amplitude ratios closely agree with the theoretical predictions and the earlier numerical estimates of the specific heat and the susceptibility amplitude ratios.
