Population dynamics of Yb isotopes interacting with laser radiation resonant with transition lines of 168 Yb

A three-color, three-step, three-photon ionization scheme is chosen to examine the population dynamics and photoionization of isotopes in Yb media in the framework of the Maxwell-Bloch equation for the case where the laser frequencies are resonant on the transition lines of 168Yb. It is revealed that the scheme can be used for the effective photoionization of 168Yb, resulting in a selectivity of about 100%.

Calculation of ^91Zr optical selectivities in two-color resonant three-photon ionization schemes

Pragada V. Kiran Kumar, Manda Sankari, Manda V. Suryanarayana

Optical selectivity calculations have been carried out for the 91Zr isotope for two-color resonant three-photon photoionization schemes. The density-matrix equations of motion were solved numerically for collinear, counterpropagating, linearly polarized laser beams having Gaussian temporal profile. Calculations were carried out incorporating the effects of Doppler broadening, magnetic sublevel degeneracy, and laser bandwidths. The selectivities and ion yields were determined for various Rabi frequencies and ionization rates. Thereby, the optimal Rabi frequencies for the first and second excitation steps and ionizaton rate for the ionizaton step were determined. The ionization efficiency as a function of detuning of the excitation lasers was also investigated. Two of the photoionization schemes investigated yielded a selectivity of ∼10, with an ion yield of ∼23%.

Dynamic shift in single-color two-step three-photon ionization

Yongjoo Rhee, A. S. Choe, Jongmin Lee +2 more

A single-color, two-step, three-photon ionization is examined in a point of view of the dynamic shift of two-photon resonance within the framework of the Bloch equation. It is suggested that a formula well-describes the dynamic shift even beyond usual quadratic behavior and it corresponds to the laser-frequency detuning causing a complete population transfer to the third-bound level.
