Lithium niobate is widely used in photonics applications because of its large second order nonlinearity and the possibility of integrating nonlinear parametric processes and fast electro-optical reconfigurability. Here we show how these properties can be used for continuous variable quantum optics experiments including the generation, manipulation and characterization and detection of squeezed light.

Integrated quantum photonic system has become a promising candidate for next-generation quantum optical system. Thanks to the scalability and strong light-matter interactions, such nanophotonic systems can realize compactness, large-scale integration, stability, and novel optical functionalities simultaneously. In this talk, I will introduce our experimental works in the fields of the integrated lithium niobate photonics. First, we demonstrate a set of nonlinear photon-pair generations for the nonlinear quantum photonic sources. Next, I will show our works on lithium-niobate integrated quantum photonic circuits for the application in quantum communications and variational quantum simulations.

Lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) is a leading platform for high-speed optical communication technologies owing to its large electro-optic bandwidth, which enables light modulation above 100 GHz [1]. The wide transparency window is being leveraged to produce photonic integrated circuits operating at different wavelengths, and the strong second-order nonlinearity allows efficient frequency conversion via periodic poling of the crystal on the same waveguide network [2]. LNOI has potential to revolutionise optical communication, and nonlinear conversion processes can be used to generate highly pure quantum states acting as bits of information for the next generation of optical quantum information technologies.
