The Generalized Tavis—Cummings Model with Cavity Damping

Abstract

In this Communication, we consider a generalised Tavis–Cummings model when the damping process is taken into account. We show that the quantum dynamics governed by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is exactly solvable using the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method, and the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz. The leakage of photons is described by a Lindblad-type master equation. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is diagonalised by state vectors, which are elementary symmetric functions parametrised by the solutions of the Bethe equations. The time evolution of the photon annihilation operator is defined via a corresponding determinant representation.

Lindblad dynamics of the damped and forced quantum harmonic oscillator: General solution

H. J. Korsch

The quantum dynamics of a damped and forced harmonic oscillator described by a Lindblad master equation is analyzed. The master equation is converted into a matrix-vector representation and the resulting non-Hermitian Schrödinger equation is solved by Lie-algebraic techniques allowing the construction of the general solution for the density operator.

Quantum Tavis–Cummings Model

Hans-Peter Eckle

Abstract This chapter extends the algebraic Bethe ansatz to the quantum Tavis–Cummings model, an N atom generalization of the Jaynes–Cummings model to describe the strong interaction between light and quantum matter. In the case of the quantum Tavis–Cum- mings model there is no underlying vertex model to suggest the constituent building blocks of the algebraic Bethe ansatz approach, e.g.like the L-matrix or ultimately the transfer matrix. The algebraic Bethe ansatz is then first applied to the Tavis–Cummings Hamiltonian with an added Stark term using a conjecture for the transfer matrix. The original Tavis–Cummings model and its algebraic Bethe ansatz are obtained in the limit of vanishing Stark term, which requires considerable care.

One Generalization of the Dicke-Type Models

Denis V. Kurlov, Aleksey K. Fedorov, A. S. Garkun +1 more

We discuss one family of possible generalizations of the Jaynes-Cummings and the Tavis-Cummings models using the technique of algebraic Bethe ansatz related to the Gaudin-type models. In particular, we present a family of (generically) non-Hermitian Hamiltonians that generalize paradigmatic quantum-optical models. Further directions of our research include studying physical properties of the obtained generalized models.

Exact solution of the Jaynes-Cummings model with cavity damping

A. J. van Wonderen

Operating in Laplace language and making use of a representation based on photon-number states, we find the exact solution for the density operator that belongs to the Jaynes-Cummings model with cavity damping. The detuning parameter is set equal to zero and the optical resonator does not contain any thermal photons. It is shown that the master equation for the density operator can be replaced by two algebraic recursion relations for vectors of dimension 2 and 4. These vectors are built up from suitably chosen matrix elements of the density operator. By performing an iterative procedure, the exact solution for each matrix element is found in the form of an infinite series. We demonstrate that all series are convergent and discuss how they can be truncated when carrying out numerical work. With the help of techniques from function theory, it is proved that our solutions respect the following conditions on the density operator: conservation of trace, Hermiticity, convergence to the initial state for small times, and convergence to the ground state for large times. We compute some matrix elements of the density operator for the case of weak damping and find that their analytic structure becomes much simpler. Finally, it is shown that the exact atomic density matrix converges to the state of maximum von Neumann entropy if the time, the square of the initial electromagnetic energy density, and the inverse of the cavity-damping parameter tend to infinity equally fast. The initial condition for the atom can be chosen freely, whereas the field may start from either a coherent or a photon-number state.

Dissipative dynamics of nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model

Eugene K. Bashkirov, M. S. Rusakova

A nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model is investigated where the leakage of photon through the cavity is taken into account. The effect of cavity damping on the mean photon number, atomic populations, field statistics and both field and atomic squeezing is considered on the basis of master equation in dressed-state approximation for initial coherent fields and excited atom.

On global dynamics for damped driven Jaynes-Cummings equations

A. I. Komech, E. A. Kopylova

The article concerns damped driven Jaynes-Cummings equation which describes quantised one-mode Maxwell field coupled to a two-level molecule. We consider a broad class of damping and pumping which are polynomial in the creation and annihilation operators, and their structures correspond to the theory of completely positive and trace preserving generators (CPTP) of Lindblad and Kossakowski & al. Our main result is the construction of global generalised solutions with values in the Hilbert space of nonnegative Hermitian Hilbert-Schmidt operators in the case of time-dependent pumping. The proofs rely on finite-dimensional approximations of the annihilation and creation operators.
