Nearly degenerate four wave mixing in DFB lasers

Antonio Mecozzi, P. Spanò, Alessandro D’Ottavi +1 more

Degenerate Four Wave Mixing (DFWM) and Nearly Degenerate Four Wave Mixing (NDFWM) have attracted a considerable attention in non-linear optics. DFWM has found several applications in phase conjugation, used in real time holography and adaptive optics. To realize a higher amplification of the conjugate wave, semiconductor amplifiers have been used. A theoretical analysis of the NDFWM process has been presented by Agrawal [1]. Here, an experimental and theoretical analysis of NDFWM in Distributed Feedback (DFB) lasers is proposed, where the FWM efficiency is enhanced by the cavity feedback mechanism.

Degenerate Four Wave Mixing of Short and Ultrashort Light Pulses

Ian C. McMichael

This dissertation presents experimental and theoretical studies of transient degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) in organic dyes. Chapter 1 is an introduction to DFWM. Chapter 2 describes DFWM experiments that were performed in the gain medium of a dye laser. Chapter 3 presents the theory of DFWM of short pulses in three level saturable media. Chapter 4 presents DFWM experiments of femtosecond pulses in the saturable absorber of a passively modelocked ring dye laser. Chapter 5 presents the theory of DFWM of ultrashort pulses in resonant media.

Resonant Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing in SO2

Wenqi Wei, Z.Z. Lu, Q. Dong +6 more

We report an experimental investigation of degenerate four-wave mixing spectrum of SO2.A novel beam-split technique is used to compensate the beam drift caused by the laser itself and disturbance from the environment.Degenerate four-wave mixing spectra of the transition B 1 B1 ← X 1 A11 for SO2 are obtained. The degenerate four-wave mixing signal intensity as a function of the total input laser energy is measured. The effects of the laser field intensity on the degenerate four-wave mixing spectrum are analyzed. Our results show that the degenerate four-wave mixing signal intensity rises with laser intensity and tends to saturate. Then, a dip begins to appear at resonance in the profile with increase in laser field. The existence of saturation for degenerate four-wave mixing signal intensity and spectrum profile confirms the prediction of previous theoretical work.
