Nonlinear spin excitations in finite Heisenberg chains

Shakhnoza Rakhmanova, D. L. Mills

In the recent literature, there have been discussions of nonlinear spin excitations in one-dimensional, anisotropic Heisenberg spin chains. These have the character of localized excitations, which emerge from the time-dependent classical equations of motion. We show that for a given frequency, in a finite spin chain one has a hierarchy of nonlinear excitations, whose envelopes have the appearance of a one soliton, two soliton,..., states. Also, we consider the nature of these nonlinear excitations in an applied magnetic field of frequency \ensuremath{\omega}, and explore aspects of the transient behavior of the system in response to a time varying external field. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Domain walls and magnetization plateaus in the finite-size anisotropic spin- 1 2 Heisenberg X X Z model in a longitudinal magnetic field

Vrushali Ramesh Kapase, Pradeep Thakur, P. Durganandini

Abstract We focus in this work on a numerical DMRG study of the one dimensional X X Z Heisenberg spin chain. We discuss the dependence of the energy spectrum, level crossings, magnetization, static structure factor, etc as a function of the magnetic field for finite size chains with periodic boundary condition and open boundary condition(OBC). We show that finite size effects lead to the emergence of a series of magnetization steps related to crossing of energy levels with unit change in the total z component of the spin. We also show interesting relations between the emergence of the magnetization steps and the appearance of domain walls in the local magnetization profiles with a fixed number of nodes. We connect the domain walls in the OBC case with the solitons of the sine-Gordon model with OBC.

Solitons in Ising-like quantum spin chains in a magnetic field : a second quantization approach

Francois Devreux, Jean‐Philippe Boucher

We propose a second quantization formalism for the soliton modes in the s =112 Ising-like antiferromagnetic chain. We give the exact expressions, within the one-soliton approximation, for the dynamical structure factors in presence of a magnetic field, either parallel or perpendicular to the chain. We show that the field gives rise to a splitting of the soliton modes. We also derive the spin correlation function relative to the antiferromagnetic mode for finite and infinite chains.
