Abstract

The polarizations of optical fields, besides field intensities, provide more degrees of freedom to manipulate coherent light-matter interactions. Here we propose how to achieve a coherent switch of optomechanical entanglement in a polarized-light-driven cavity system. We show that by tuning the polarizations of the driving field, the effective optomechanical coupling can be well controlled and, as a result, quantum entanglement between the mechanical oscillator and the optical transverse electric (TE) mode can be coherently and reversibly switched to that between the same phonon mode and the optical transverse magnetic (TM) mode. This ability of switching optomechanical entanglement with such a vectorial device can be important for building a quantum network being capable of efficient quantum information interchanges between processing nodes and flying photons.

Vector photon-magnon-phonon coherence in a polarized microwave driven cavity magnomechanical system

Jia‐Xin Peng, Akash Kundu, Zeng‐Xing Liu +3 more

Polarization is a significant vector property of the light field that has been widely applied in various fields of modern optical sciences. In this paper, we introduce the concept of polarization into the cavity-magnomechanical system as a platform for studying quantum coherence in the vector regime. Interestingly, we find that quantum coherence can be flexibly and continuously controlled by adjusting the polarization angle of the optical polarizer and implementing coherent switching and role reversal between the two types of photon-magnon-phonon coherences for the transverse electric and transverse magnetic modes. More importantly, this coherent conversion characteristic of quantum coherence exhibits strong robustness to environmental temperature and dissipation channels. In practice, this ability to switch macroscopic quantum coherence would provide another degree of freedom for quantum information science based on the cavity-magnomechanical system. In addition, the experimental feasibility of the polarization-controlled quantum coherence is evaluated, and the strategy for detecting vector quantum coherence is discussed briefly.

Vector quantum steering in pulsed optomechanics

Kai‐Wei Huang, Xin Wang, Qing‐Yang Qiu +2 more

Quantum steering plays a key role for quantum technologies, such as one-way quantum computation and quantum communication. Here, we consider a vector cavity optomechanical scheme to create quantum steering between two orthogonal polarized lights and a mechanical vibration, where cavity modes are driven by short laser pulses. By controlling the polarization behavior of a light field, we not only manipulate the steering of the vibration via polarized light, but also reversibly switch between ordinary tripartite steering and collective steering. In addition, we find that bipartite steering is more sensitive to thermal noise than tripartite steering. As a result, collective steering can be achieved within a larger parameter range. Controllable quantum steering with such a vectorial device may provide effective resources to build up steered networks.

Multi-path vector entanglement engineering via dark mode control in optomechanics

P. Djorwé, R. Altuijri, A. J. Almalki +2 more

We propose a scheme to generate multi-paths entanglement in an optomechanical system by exploiting polarized electromagnetic fields and dark mode control. Our system consists of two mechanically coupled mechanical resonators, which are driven by a common electromagnetic field. An inclusion of a polarizer induces linear polarizations of the electromgnetic field corresponding to the vertical (transverse electric ($\rm{TE}$) and horizontal (transverse magnetic [($\rm{TM}$]) modes, which drive the mechanical resonators. Without the mechanical coupling $J_m=0$, the polarization angle ($φ$) controls dark mode in the system. The breaking of this dark mode leads to multi-paths engineering of bipartite optomechanical entanglements. By switching on the phonon hopping rate ($J_m\neq0$), both the polarization angle and the modulation phase of the mechanical coupling allow a further control of the dark mode. The simultaneous Dark Mode Breaking (\rm{DMB}) conditions under these two parameters leads to multi-paths bipartite and tripartite entanglements. For a fine tuning of the polarization angle ($φ=π/4$) this scheme enables a generation of twin entangled states, where the bipartite/tripartite generated entangled states are degenerated and might be of great interest for quantum information processing, quantum communication and diverse quantum computational tasks. The generated entanglements are more resilient against thermal fluctuations in the \rm{DMB} regime, i.e., up to two order of magnitude robust than in the Unbreaking regime. Our work sheets light on new possibilities to generate noise-tolerant quantum resources that are useful for plethora of modern quantum technologies.

Optomechanical entanglement manipulation and switching in a squeezed-cavity-assisted optomechanical system

Lei Sun, Yi‐Bing Qian, Deng-Gao Lai +4 more

Quantum entanglement is pivotal in modern quantum technologies, spanning applications from quantum networks to quantum metrology. Controllable quantum entanglement in cavity optomechanical systems has been an enduring pursuit. We propose a unique method for flexible manipulation and switching of optomechanical entanglement in a squeezed-cavity-assisted optomechanical system consisting of a χ (2) -nonlinear optical cavity and an optomechanical cavity. Squeezing the nonlinear optical cavity through parametric pumping allows effective control of light-light and light-vibration interactions within the system. This capability of the squeezed system plays a key role in manipulating quantum entanglement. We find that quantum entanglement between the unsqueezed cavity mode and the mechanical mode can be effectively regulated by adjusting the pump laser parameters. Furthermore, by turning the phase of the pump, we can achieve highly flexible quantum switching between entanglement and separability. Additionally, we demonstrate increased entanglement between the squeezed cavity mode and the mechanical mode when completely suppressing the pump-induced optical input noise. Our findings pave the way not only towards the manipulation and protection of fragile quantum entanglement but also to achieve photon-phonon quantum control by exploiting quantum squeezing.

Diamond optomechanics for coherent manipulation of light (Conference Presentation)

Paul E. Barclay

Diamond cavity optomechanical devices enable coherent conversion of information between optical and mechanical domains, thanks to a combination of low optical and mechanical loss, the ability to support intense optical fields without suffering from multi-photon optical absorption, and enhanced optomechanical coupling arising from nanoscale device geometry. In this talk we will review our progress in using these devices to create optical memories, wavelength conversion devices, and phase sensitive all-optical switches.
