Exact Solution of the Schrödinger Equation for Composition of Coulomb and Oscillator Potentials

Abstract

The spherically symmetric potential is considered whose dependence on the distance r is described by the smooth composition of Coulomb at r < r0 and oscillator at r > r0 potentials. The boundary distance r0 is determined by the parameters of these potentials. The exact continuous solution of the radial Schrödinger equation is expressed in terms of the confluent hypergeometric functions. The discrete energy levels are obtained. The graphic illustrations for the energy spectrum and the radial wave functions are presented.

A Simple General Solution of the Radial Schrodinger Equation for Spherically Symmetric Potentials

Hasan Hüseyin Erbil

By using a simple procedure the general solution of the time-independent radial Schrodinger Equation for spherical symmetric potentials was made without making any approximation. The wave functions are always periodic. It appears two diffucilties: one of them is the solution of the equation E= U(r), where E and U(r) are the total an effective potential energies, respectively, and the other is the calculation of the integral of the square root of U(r). If analytical calculations are not possible, one must apply numerical methods. To find the energy wave function of the ground state, there is no need for the calculation of this integral, it is sufficient to find the classical turning points, that is to solve the equation E=U(r).

Series solution for the Schrõdinger equation with a long-range spherically symmetric potential

Lin Chang, Chen-Wei Wang, Xiulian Zhang

An analytical solution of the three-dimensional Schrödinger equation has been obtained for possibly the first time for a general long-range spherically symmetric potential. An exact series solution is derived which is valid for potentials behaving as r-n for r ⩾ r0 where n ⩾ 4.

qanalogs of the radial Schrödinger equation inNspace dimensions

É. Papp

Transparent closed forms of the radial ${\mathrm{SO}}_{\mathit{q}}$(N) Schr\"odinger equation acting on the noncommutative quantum Euclidean space are written both for l=0 and l\ensuremath{\ne}0. Starting from the s-wave equation leads to the derivation of an alternative q analog of the radial Schr\"odinger equation in N space dimensions exhibiting a modified symmetry, now in terms of wave functions depending on the radial coordinate only. The harmonic oscillator and the Coulomb system are treated as concrete examples. These results open the way to the derivation of q-deformed (1/N)-energy formulas for arbitrary spherically symmetrical potentials. Comparisons with exact ${\mathrm{SO}}_{\mathit{q}}$(N) results, as well as further interpretations, have also been made.

On exact analytical solutions for the few-particle Schrodinger equation. III. Spatially symmetric S states of two identical particles in the field of a massive third particle

Cheryl L. Davis, E. N. Maslen

For pt.II see Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. A, vol.384, no.1786, p.89-105 (1982). A procedure for solving the few-particle Schrodinger equation exactly is applied to a model system consisting of two identical particles and a massive third particle. The type of interaction potential is not specified except that it should not diverge more rapidly than r -2 at the particle positions. Allowable interactions include the Coulomb and the harmonic oscillator potentials. The principles are illustrated by reference to the spatially symmetric states of the system. The solution has the form of a multipole expansion in spherical polar coordinates. The radial dependence for each multipole component is defined by a power series including logarithmic terms. Explicit expressions are given for the coefficients in the expansion. Exact coefficients are obtained for low-order terms in the wavefunction of a two-electron atom.

Exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation with Dunkl derivative for the free-particle spherical waves, the pseudo-harmonic oscillator and the Mie-type potential

R. D. Mota, D. Ojeda-Guillén

In this paper, we solve exactly the Schrödinger equation for the free-particle, the pseudo-harmonic oscillator and the Mie-type potential in three dimensions with the Dunkl derivative. The equations for the radial and angular parts are obtained by using spherical coordinates and separation of variables. The wave functions and the energy spectrum for these potentials are derived in an analytical way and it is shown that our results are adequately reduced to those previously reported when we remove the Dunkl derivative parameters.
