Abstract

Secure data transmission in future high-capacity high-coverage multi-tier hierarchical networks, for which cognitive radio(CR) has emerged as an essential recipe, is of utmost importance. This paper investigates the secrecy outage performance of selection combining(SC) in CR networks(CRNs) over Rayleigh fading channels. In a single-input multiple-output(SIMO) wiretap channel, a secondary user transmits confidential messages to another secondary user, which is equipped with( 1)B Bn n ≥ antennas. Meanwhile, a passive eavesdropper, which is equipped with( 1)E En n ≥ antennas, intends to overhear the messages. Both the legal receiver and the eavesdropper adopt SC scheme to process the received multiple signals. The secondary transmitter uses the underlay strategy to guarantee the quality of service of the primary user without spectrum sensing. Compared to the work proposed by Maged Elkashlan et al. in Ref. [1], we present an alternative method to derive the closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability(SOP) and develop a simplified SOP when the maximal transmit power at the secondary user is sufficiently high. Our results reveal the impact of the primary network on the secondary network with a multi-antenna wiretap channel and simulations are conducted to validate the accuracy of our proposed analytical models.

Physical layer security of maximal ratio combining in underlay cognitive radio unit over Rayleigh fading channels

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy outage performance of maximal ratio combining (MRC) in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) over Rayleigh fading channels. In a single input multiple output wiretap system, we consider a secondary user SU-TX transmits confidential messages to another secondary user SU-RX equipped with K (K>1) antennas while MRC technique is adopted to improve its received signal-to-noise ratio. Meanwhile, an eavesdropper exists to overhear the information between SU-TX and SU-RX. SU-TX adopts the underlay strategy to meet the quality of service of the primary user without spectrum sensing. In this paper, we derive the closed-form expressions for the secrecy outage probability and the probability of nonzero secrecy capacity of MRC scheme in CRNs over Rayleigh fading channels. Simulations are conducted to validate the accuracy of our proposed analytical models.

We investigate the secrecy outage performance of maximal ratio combining (MRC) in cognitive radio networks over Rayleigh fading channels. In a single-input multiple-output wiretap system, we consider a secondary user (SU-TX) that transmits confidential messages to another secondary user (SU-RX) equipped with M ( M ≥ 1) antennas where the MRC technique is adopted to improve its received signal-to-noise ratio. Meanwhile, an eavesdropper equipped with N ( N ≥ 1) antennas adopts the MRC scheme to overhear the information between SU-TX and SU-RX. SU-TX adopts the underlay strategy to guarantee the service quality of the primary user without spectrum sensing. We derive the closed-form expressions for an exact and asymptotic secrecy outage probability.

Secrecy Performance of SIMO Underlay Cognitive Radio Networks Over α – μ Fading Channels

Suneel Yadav, Devendra Singh Gurjar

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of a single-input multiple-output (SIMO) based underlay cognitive radio networks. In particular, a single-antenna secondary transmitter transmits its secret message to a multi-antenna equipped secondary node in the presence of a multi-antenna equipped passive eavesdropper under a peak interference constraint at the single-antenna primary receiver. We proficiently derive the expressions for secrecy outage probability (SOP), intercept probability, and ergodic secrecy capacity (ESC) for the considered system over$\alpha -\mu $fading channels. Further, we carry out the asymptotic analysis of SOP and intercept probability under two cases of interest; 1) when the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the main link, i.e., between the secondary source and secondary destination, goes to infinity with a fixed average SNR of wiretap link between the secondary source and secondary eavesdropper, and 2) when the SNRs of both the main and wiretap links tend to infinity. We can infer that a secrecy diversity order of$\frac {\alpha _{D}N_{D}\mu _{D}}{2}$can be achieved under case 1, where$\alpha _{D}$and$\mu _{D}$are the main link fading parameters, and$N_{D}$denotes the number of antennas at the destination. Whereas, under case 2, the system’s secrecy diversity order becomes zero. Moreover, we also present some interesting findings for the ESC when the interference constrained secondary transmitter power is considerably high. Further, we validate our analytical framework through extensive simulation and numerical results, and demonstrate the effects of system/channel parameters on the secrecy performance of the considered system. Our results reveal that the higher number of eavesdropper antennas can have a more deleterious impact on the system’s secrecy performance.

On the Secrecy Analysis of Dual-Hop Underlay Multi-Source CRNs with Multi-Eavesdroppers and a Multi-Antenna Destination

Mounia Bouabdellah, Faissal El Bouanani, Daniel Benevides da Costa +4 more

In this paper, the physical layer security in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) is investigated. We consider an underlay relay assisted CRN consisting of multiple secondary sources, multiple-antenna destination, a single relay, and multiple eavesdroppers. The destination node performs the maximal-ratio combining under uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. In more details, we consider, a secondary source is randomly selected to transmit its data, and a jammer is chosen from the remaining source nodes to send a jamming signal to the eavesdroppers. The closed-form expression of the secrecy outage probability is derived, based on the statistical characteristics of the communication channels, under the primary user's quality of service constraint. The derived analysis gives deep insights into the impact of network parameters on the performance of on the secrecy outage performance. Analytic results are corroborated through Monte Carlo simulation.

A cognitive wiretap channel is considered with underlay spectrum sharing and multiple primary users. The secondary transmitter communicates with a secondary receiver in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. The secondary transmitter, the secondary receiver are equipped with multiple antennas, whereas and each eavesdropper is equipped with a single antenna. Secrecy performance of the cognitive wiretap channel is analyzed. Transmit antenna selection (TAS) scheme is implemented to enhance the security in communication. Secrecy performance Analysis for Underlay Cognitive Radio Network with Optimal Antenna Selection and Generalized Receiver Selection

Shilpa Thakur, Ajay Singh

We have examined the physical layer security of an underlay cognitive radio network (CRN) consisting of L legitimate receivers ( STX), a secondary transmitter ( STX), an eavesdropper (Eve), and a primary user (PU). All SRX and the PU are equipped with a single antenna while the STX and Eve are implemented with multiple antennas. The optimal antenna selection scheme (OAS) is adopted at the STX, which maximizes the secrecy capacity while a generalized receiver selection scheme is adopted at the SRX. The STX sends information to the SRX with the lthbest signal to noise ratio (SNR). The concise expressions for exact and asymptotic secrecy outage probability (SOP) for an arbitrary number of SRX, number of transmit antenna NA, and number of eavesdropper antenna NE have derived.
