Abstract

A mesoscopic Josephson junction with dissipation is considered. Usually the dissipation in the system is described as a consequence of its coupling to a reservoir. By solving the master equation we show that the state of the junction can evolve in a quantum superposition of two coherent states even when the dissipation is present.``

Quantum coherence in a mesoscopic Josephson junction with dissipation

Jian Zou, Bin Shao

A mesoscopic Josephson junction in a superconducting ring enclosing a magnetostatic flux with dissipation is considered. The dissipation in this system is described as a consequence of its coupling to a reservoir. By solving the master equation it is shown that the state of the junction can evolve into a quantum superposition of two coherent states even when the dissipation is present. It is also shown that squeezing effects can exist in such a system, and the dynamic behavior of the supercurrent shows collapse and revival phenomena. The quantum decoherence is also discussed.

We study a mesoscopic Josephson junction in a circular superconducting ring which encloses a magneto static flux. It is shown that with the junction being initially prepared in vacuum state, the state of the junction can evolve into a quantum superposition of two coherent states.

SUPERPOSITIONS OF COHERENT STATES AND SQUEEZING EFFECTS IN A MESOSCOPIC JOSEPHSON JUNCTION

Jian Zou, Bin Shao

We consider a mesoscopic Josephson junction in a circular superconducting ring which encloses a magneto static flux. It is shown that with the junction being initially prepared in its lowest energy level the state of the junction can evolve in a quantum superposition of two coherent states, and squeezing can exist in such system.

Creating Coherent States in a Mesoscopic Josephson Junction

We examine a system of mesoscopic Josephson junction driven by classical field and solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation of the system with the help of the time-dependent invariant of the Hamiltonian operator. We show that the state of the system can evolve a pure coherent state when the junction is prepared initially in its ground state.

Quantum Fluctuation Properties in Mesoscopic Josephson Junction

Zou Jian

An effective bosonic Hamiltonian describing the interaction of a mesoscopic Josephson junction with a quantized radiation field is studied. It is shown that when the field is initially in a coherent state and the junction initially in its lowest energy level state, the state of the coupled field-mesoscopic Josephson junction system can evolve to a squeezed state. A detailed analysis about the quantum fluctuation of the coupled system is given.
