Quantum optical correlation through metamaterials

Yunxia Dong, Xiaohua Cui

Based on the quantization scheme of the radiation fields in the dispersive and absorptive magnetic media, the normally ordered correlation functions of the outgoing field through a metamaterial plate are obtained. Then the relative photon-number densities of the transmitted field, the reflected field and the absorbed field are gotten through the correlation functions. Furthermore, the contributions of the relative permittivity and permeability of the metamaterials to the transmission are analyzed. Our results show that the permittivity and permeability reinforce the transmission for frequencies that are big compared with the magnetic resonance frequency.

Quantum entanglement of the spin and orbital angular momentum of photons using metamaterials

Tomer Stav, Arkady Faerman, Elhanan Maguid +4 more

Metamaterials constructed from deep subwavelength building blocks have been used to demonstrate phenomena ranging from negative refractive index and ε-near-zero to cloaking, emulations of general relativity, and superresolution imaging. More recently, metamaterials have been suggested as a new platform for quantum optics. We present the use of a dielectric metasurface to generate entanglement between the spin and orbital angular momentum of photons. We demonstrate the generation of the four Bell states on a single photon by using the geometric phase that arises from the photonic spin-orbit interaction and subsequently show nonlocal correlations between two photons that interacted with the metasurface. Our results show that metamaterials are suitable for the generation and manipulation of entangled photon states, introducing the area of quantum optics metamaterials.

Quantum and Thermal Noise Engineering with Metamaterials

Iñigo Liberal

Quantum metamaterials offer multiple possibilities for the generation of non-classical light and the engineering of quantum and thermal noise. In our talk, we will review our latest advanced in the topic, describing how temporal metamaterials enable the generation of squeezed states of light, how antireflection temporal coatings facilitate quantum state frequency shifting and ultra-fast switching without thermal noise amplification, as well as the design of optical amplifiers with and enhanced noise performance based on noise correlations.
