Observation of Acoustically Induced Dressed States of Rare-Earth Ions

Ryuichi Ohta, Grégoire Lelu, Xuejun Xu +9 more

Acoustically induced dressed states of long-lived erbium ions in a crystal are demonstrated. These states are formed by rapid modulation of two-level systems via strain induced by surface acoustic waves whose frequencies exceed the optical linewidth of the ion ensemble. Multiple sidebands and the reduction of their intensities appearing near the surface are evidence of a strong interaction between the acoustic waves and the ions. This development allows for on-chip control of long-lived ions and paves the way to highly coherent hybrid quantum systems with telecom photons, acoustic phonons, and electrons.

Echo spectroscopy of two-level systems in a Y2SiO5: Pr3+ crystal

Роман Сергеевич Борисов, Б. В. Гринев, Yu. V. Malyukin +5 more

The results of an experimental investigation of low-temperature optical spectra and phase relaxation of electronic excitations of Pr3+ impurity ions in a Y2SiO5 crystal are reported. It is established that at low temperatures spectral lines are broadened by a mechanism that is uncharacteristic for crystals and is due to the interaction of impurity ions with two-level systems. The constants characterizing the interaction of Pr3+ impurity ions with phonons and two-level systems are found.

Supersensitive electronic transition in impurity Nd-Nd nanoclusters in CaF2 crystal

A comparison of the theoretical calculations with the results of experiments on high-resolution laser spectroscopy made it possible to reveal the fine structure that arises in the supersensitive 4 I 9/2 ↔ 4 G 5/2 transition as a result of a strong coherent interaction in the Nd 3+ ion pair in the CaF 2 crystal and construct the level splitting diagram for the ground and excited states of impurity Nd-Nd nanoclusters.
