Abstract

Within the framework of thermo field dynamics, we derive the partition functions for a harmonic oscillator obeying parafermi and parabose statistics. The thermodynamic functions are studied for different limits of the order of the statistics and are shown to have the expected behaviour.

DISTRIBUTION OF PARASTATISTICS FUNCTIONS: AN OVERVIEW OF THERMODYNAMICS PROPERTIES

R. Yosi Aprian Sari, Wipsar Sunu Brams Dwandaru

This study aims to determine the thermodynamic properties of the parastatistics system of order two. The thermodynamic properties to be searched include the Grand Canonical Partition Function (GCPF) Z, and the average number of particles N. These parastatistics systems is in a more general form compared to quantum statistical distribution that has been known previously, i.e.: the Fermi-Dirac (FD) and Bose-Einstein (BE). Starting from the recursion relation of grand canonical partition function for parastatistics system of order two that has been known, recuresion linkages for some simple thermodynamic functions for parastatistics system of order two are derived. The recursion linkages are then used to calculate the thermodynamic functions of the model system of identical particles with limited energy levels which is similar to the harmonic oscillator. From these results we concluded that from the Grand Canonical Partition Function (GCPF), Z, the thermodynamics properties of parastatistics system of order two (paraboson and parafermion) can be derived and have similar shape with parastatistics system of order one (Boson and Fermion). The similarity of the graph shows similar thermodynamic properties. Keywords: parastatistics, thermodynamic properties

The harmonic oscillator at finite temperature using path integrals

Åsmund Larsen, F. Ravndal

The statistical mechanics of a quantum harmonic oscillator can easily be formulated in terms of Feynman path integrals in imaginary time. By straightforward integrations, the partition function, the internal energy, and correlation functions are found. When time is discretized, the same results can be obtained directly using Monte Carlo methods on a computer. In the zero temperature limit, the usual quantum mechanical results are recovered.

Thermodynamic Functions of a Parabosonic System of Second Order

R Y A Sari, Wipsar Sunu Brams Dwandaru

This study aims to determine the thermodynamic properties of a paraboson system of order two. The thermodynamic properties to be searched include the grand canonical partition function (GCPF), Z , and the average number of particles, N . These parastatistics systems is a more general form compared to a quantum statistical distribution that has been known previously, i.e. Bose-Einstein statistics (BE). Starting from the recursion relation of the GCPF for paraboson system of order two, recursion linkages for some simple thermodynamic functions for paraboson system of order two may be derived. The recursion linkages are then used to calculate the thermodynamic function of the model system of identical particles with limited energy levels which is similar to the harmonic oscillator. The results from Z show that the thermodynamics properties of the paraboson system of order two can be derived and have a similar shape with paraboson system of order one (boson). The similarity of the graph shows similar thermodynamic properties.

On the relationship between thermo field dynamics and quantum statistical mechanics

Ian D. Lawrie

The relationship between two approaches to the study of non-equilibrium field theories, namely quantum statistical mechanics and thermo field dynamics, is investigated. The formalism of superoperators acting in the Liouville space of density matrices is used to provide a detailed translation between the two approaches. It is found that thermo field dynamics is exactly equivalent to a restricted version of quantum statistical mechanics, in which the initial density matrix is constrained to be Gaussian. The dissipative perturbation theory developed within thermo field dynamics is translated into the language of statistical mechanics, and is found to be equivalent to that devised by the author using the statistical-mechanical closed-time-path method, except that the latter theory is not restricted to Gaussian initial states.

Multi-mode q-oscillator algebras with q2(k + 1) = 1 and related thermo field dynamics

Ya-Jun Gao

A type of multi-mode q-oscillator algebra with q2(k + 1) = 1 is set up and the associated qk-thermo field dynamics is constructed for all k = 1,2,,∞ in a unified form. It is demonstrated that these qk-thermo field dynamics can all be nicely fitted into the algebraic formulation of statistical mechanics (axiomatized form for statistical physics). This means that we obtain infinitely many realizations of the algebraic scheme, which extend the consideration of Ojima [1981 Ann. Phys. 137 1] and contain the usual thermo field dynamics for the fermionic (k = 1) and bosonic (k = ∞) systems as special cases. As simple applications, the qk-statistical average of some operators are given.
