Frequency Manipulations in Single-Photon Quantum Transport under Ultrastrong Driving

Han Xiao, Luojia Wang, Luqi Yuan +1 more

All-optical manipulation of a single-photon quantum transport is of fundamental importance in quantum nanophotonics. Here, a system consisting of a single-mode waveguide coupling with a V-type three-level atom is proposed, where two excited states of the atom are strongly driven by the external coherent field. Transmission and reflection spectra for the output photon at different frequency components, including virtual transitions induced by the ultrastrong driving, are calculated. The interaction between the waveguide photon and the driven atom experiences quantum interferences, which leads to a variety of capabilities for manipulating the single-photon transport in the spectral domain. We perform simulations to demonstrate the possibilities of achieving desired frequency conversions as well as generating different correlated single-photon states by using external drive field at chosen strength. Our work therefore studies the single-photon transport in a strongly driven atom–waveguide system and shows applications for all-optically manipulating the single photon in the field of quantum information processing.

Vacuum Rabi oscillation induced by virtual photons in the ultrastrong-coupling regime

C. K. Law

We present an interaction scheme that exhibits a dynamical effect of virtual photons carried by a vacuum-field dressed two-level atom in the ultrastrong-coupling regime. We show that, with the aid of an external driving field, virtual photons provide a transition matrix element that enables the atom to evolve coherently and reversibly to an auxiliary level accompanied by the emission of a real photon. The process corresponds to a type of vacuum Rabi oscillation, and we show that the effective vacuum Rabi frequency is proportional to the amplitude of a single virtual photon in the ground state. Therefore, the interaction scheme could serve as a probe of ground-state structures in the ultrastrong-coupling regime.

Near-Perfect Single-Photon Source via Ultrastrong Coupling

Ying Ren, Ying-Xue Ma, Jin-Feng Huang

Deterministic single-photon sources are indispensable core devices for quantum information technology, yet high-performance implementation remains a long-standing bottleneck for linear optical quantum computing. We propose a feasible scheme for deterministic single-photon emission based on a $\triangle$-type three-level atom coupled to a single-mode cavity, driven by two classical external fields, which is adaptable to both strong and ultrastrong cavity-atom coupling regimes. Under continuous-wave driving, the system achieves excellent single-photon characteristics: the normalized equal-time second-order correlation function reaches $g^{(2)}(0)\sim10^{-6}$, with a photon indistinguishability of $98.73\%$ and a state purity of $99.95\%$ in the strong coupling regime, while the ultrastrong coupling regime further suppresses $G^{(2)}(0)\sim10^{-8}$, yielding an indistinguishability of $99.10\%$ and a purity of $99.99\%$. For pulsed driving in the ultrastrong coupling regime, the source realizes superior performance, with an emission efficiency, indistinguishability, and purity of $99.96\%$, $98.98\%$, and $99.99\%$ under resonant conditions, and $100\%$, $95.91\%$, and $99.93\%$ under detuned conditions, respectively. The near-ideal optical performance of the proposed scheme provides a viable route for constructing high-quality deterministic single-photon sources, which offers a promising solution to the limitations of conventional single-photon devices and facilitates the further development of quantum information science and fundamental quantum optical research.

Deterministic single-photon sources are indispensable core devices for quantum information technology, yet high-performance implementation remains a long-standing bottleneck for linear optical quantum computing.
