The recent advances in digital services such as telehealth, video conferencing, military imaging, and video surveillance require highly reliable, secure storage and transmission of multimedia images and video. Specifically, video surveillance systems are commonly adopted for real-time event detection and video analytics. The video captured by video surveillance cameras often holds personal information, which requires privacy protection. Unlike text, digital images and video frames have many special properties, for instance, pixel correlations, textures, and huge size, which results in conventional cryptosystems like AES, data encryption standard (DES), etc., being appropriate for performing image encryption tasks as they possess very low efficiency when the data size is large. Chaotic cryptosystem has recommended a proficient approach for performing multimedia encryption with special characteristics like randomness and dynamic behavior. Though chaotic cryptosystem provides better security, these frameworks are vulnerable to cryptanalytic attacks with high computation machines. Thus, the recent advancement of quantum methodologies for quantum information processing has gained popularity in many fields such as information security, video processing, etc. 204 In this work, an attempt was made to investigate the proficiency of quantum cryptography in the field of secure video surveillance applications. To ensure the privacy of surveillance video, the proposed framework presented a novel Quantum based video cryptosystem for encrypting the digital video frames. Initially, the video frames are converted into quantum qubit frames by processing the pixel values. Next, to guarantee the secrecy of digital video information, the qubit planes are encrypted by utilizing series of quantum gates such as swap gate, controlled not gate, Toffoli gate and Hadamard gates under confusion and diffusion phases. The secrecy of digital video frames is reinforced by utilizing plain image-based quantum chaos for secret key generation. The traditional chaotic maps are quantized to obtain the quantumbased random sequences and these random sequences are further utilized to construct the secret keys for performing encryption and decryption operation. The numerical simulations and security analysis prove that the proposed system ensures secure video surveillance against cryptanalytic attacks. Also, the proposed quantum-based secure video surveillance system has ensured the effectiveness of quantum image processing in real-time video surveillance applications.
The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) has introduced significant security challenges, especially in safeguarding sensitive data transmitted across vast networks. Traditional cryptographic methods, though widely used, face increasing vulnerabilities in light of advancements in quantum computing. This research explores the application of quantum cryptography, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), to secure data transmission in IoT networks. Quantum cryptography offers a revolutionary approach by utilizing the principles of quantum mechanics, ensuring communication channels are resistant to eavesdropping and quantum attacks. Despite its promise, integrating quantum cryptography into resource-constrained IoT environments presents several technical challenges. This paper examines current quantum cryptographic techniques, their feasibility for IoT applications, and proposed solutions for overcoming integration hurdles. Case studies of real-world implementations and experimental results are discussed to highlight the effectiveness of these methods. The findings suggest that quantum cryptography, while still in its infancy for IoT, has the potential to provide robust security solutions in future networks.
Images are important data carriers because, compared to text data, they are harder to transfer or store securely and include higher volumes and redundancies of digital data. Images can be shielded against a variety of risks with security, including eavesdropping and illegal copying and alteration. Because of the potential quantum risk to the existing cryptographic encryption methods and the quick advancement towards the development of quantum computers, quantum image encryption algorithms have recently drawn increasing amounts of attention. The majority of quantum image encryption techniques such as diffusion and scrambling, involve two separate rounds. In this model, the three different chaotic maps are used separately for scrambling the images to determine the performance of the quantum image cryptography with different combination of the model. At first, the hash256 algorithm is used for generating the quantum key and the forward diffusion takes place for diffusing the first pixel to final pixel of the input image information. Then, the three different chaotic maps such as pixel permutation, Chen attractor and Lorenz attractor are used for scrambling the input image. Finally, the bit-level permutation and backward diffusion process are considered for the scrambled image. For evaluating the performance of the quantum image cryptography based on the three different chaotic maps, the NPCR, UACI, Entropy, SSIM, correlation characteristics and histogram analysis are determined. The attained NPCR, UACI, Entropy and SSIM of the CASIA2 dataset for Lorenz attractor are improved than the pixel permutation and Chen attractor. Thus, from the attained values, the Quantum Image Cryptography Based on Continuous Chaotic Map such as Lorenz attractor performs better for the statistical and differential analysis than the other chaotic maps.
In the domain of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, quantum computers offer the promise of addressing complex computational issues that traditional cryptographic methods find challenging. The unparalleled computational power of quantum computers makes existing cryptographic schemes, tailored to mitigate computational complexity, ineffective. This research introduces a robust encryption scheme designed specifically for digital data exchanged between IoT devices such as smartphones, smart sensors, and smart health monitoring devices. The proposed encryption framework is based on bit-plane extraction-based encryption, the chaotic sine model, the hyperchaotic map, the quantum baker map, and quantum operations such as quantum selective scrambling. The proposed methodology involves three key phases: the first and last phase related to permutation, which is performed at the bit level based on discrete bit-plane scrambling, bit-plane extraction, and hyperchaotic mapping. However, the second phase is based on diffusion, which depends on the chaotic sine model. During the initial stage, creating correlations among image pixels, along with a couple of chaotic sequences using a quantum baker map, is accomplished through a superposition of quantum- states. Before applying diffusion, the pixels of the grayscale image are encoded using a single qubit, and quantum operations are based on a quantum circuit featuring swap gates. To introduce pixel-level permutation, a hyperchaotic map generates random sequences within the range of 0 to 255. A circular shift further shuffles the pixel rows and pixel columns of the permuted image pixels. To enhance the digital image security further, bit-planes are extracted from the permuted bit-planes. Then, the bits within each bit plane are scrambled using a random sequence generated by the hyperchaotic map. Finally, the encoded bit planes are merged to produce a final encrypted image. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, with security parameters such as correlation, entropy, and key space measuring at 0.0001, 7.999, and >2100, respectively. Furthermore, to assess performance in relation to computational complexity, a detailed analysis of computational time is conducted. The results reveal that the proposed encryption scheme can execute all encryption steps presented in the proposed method in less than one second. These findings demonstrate the secure transmission of digital data between IoT devices and show the suitability of the proposed encryption scheme for real-time applications.
