Dynamical stability of entanglement between spin ensembles

Abstract

We study the dynamical stability of the entanglement between the two spin ensembles in the presence of an environment. For a comparative study, we consider the two cases: a single spin ensemble, and two ensembles linearly coupled to a bath, respectively. In both circumstances, we assume the validity of the Markovian approximation for the bath. We examine the robustness of the state by means of the growth of the linear entropy which gives a measure of the purity of the system. We find out macroscopic entangled states of two spin ensembles can stably exist in a common bath. This result may be very useful to generate and detect macroscopic entanglement in a common noisy environment and even a stable macroscopic memory.

Non-Markovian dynamics and entanglement evolution of a qubit in a spin environment

J. Rodríguez Garzón, Rafael Gutiérrez

The dynamics of a central spin-1/2 in presence of a local magnetic field and a bath of N spin-1/2 particles is studied in the thermodynamic limit. The interaction between the spins is Heisenberg XY type and the bath is considered to be a perfect thermal reservoir. In this case, the evolution of the populations of the reduced density matrix is obtained for different temperatures. A Born approximation is made but not a Markov approximation resulting a non-Markovian dynamics. The measure of the entanglement between the spin and the bath is obtained by means of the von Neumann entropy. For low temperatures, results show that there are oscillations of populations and of the von Neumann entropy as measure of entanglement, indicating that the central spin becomes disentangled of the spins of the bath with characteristic time periods in which it is possible to extract or recuperate information. In the regime of high temperatures, the evolution shows a final maximum entangled state with entropy S = ln 2 as it is expected for a two level system. I

Dynamics of two-qubit entanglement in a self-interacting spin-bath

Francesca Fassioli, Alexandra Olaya-Castro, Neil F. Johnson

It has recently been shown that interactions among the spins of a bath can result in an effective suppression of the decoherence of a single qubit embedded in a multi-spin environment. However, the effects of such intrabath interaction on the dynamics of entanglement are still not well understood. Here we study the dynamics of a system composed of two entangled qubits coupled to (1) independent self-interacting spin baths, and (2) a common self-interacting spin bath. We find that, as in the case of a single qubit, strong interactions among the spins in the bath may induce an effective decoupling between the bath and the system—this in turn suppresses the loss of entanglement that a non-, or weakly, interacting bath would typically cause. However we find that the intrabath interaction strength needed to achieve such effects is much larger than in the single qubit case, especially when the two qubits share the same environment. Our results illustrate the system's size effects in the entanglement sharing condition, where the entanglement within the bath limits the entanglement between the bath and the system.

Entanglement preservation in tripartite quantum systems under dephasing dynamics

Chandrashekar Radhakrishnan, Sovik Roy, Ravikumar Chinnarasu +1 more

Abstract Protecting entanglement from decoherence is a critical aspect of quantum information processsing. For many-body quantum systems evolving under decoherence, estimating multipartite entanglement is challenging. This challenge can be met up by considering a distance-based measure such as relative entropy of entanglement which decisively measures entanglement in both pure as well as mixed states. In this work, we investigate the tripartite entanglement dynamics of pure and mixed states in the presence of a structured dephasing environment at finite temperature. We show that the robustness of the quantum system to decoherence is dependent on the distribution of entanglement and its relation to different configurations of the bath. If the bath is structured individually such that each qubit has its own environment, the system has different dynamics compared to when the bath is common to all the three qubits. From the results we conjecture that there is a connection between the distribution of entanglement among the qubits and the distribution of bath degrees of freedom, and the interplay of these two distributions determines the decay rate of the entanglement dynamics. The sustainability of tripartite entanglement is shown to be enhanced significantly in the presence of reservoir memory.

Stability of pairwise entanglement in a decoherent environment

Jianming Cai, Zheng-Wei Zhou, Guang‐Can Guo

Considering the dynamics of a two-qubit entangled system in the decoherence environment, we investigate the stability of pairwise entanglement under decoherence. We find that for different decoherence models, there exists some special class of entangled states of which the pairwise entanglement is the most stable. The lifetime of the entanglement in these states is larger than other states with the same initial entanglement. In addition, we also investigate the dynamics of pairwise entanglement in the ground state of spin models such as Heisenberg and $XXY$ models.

Analytical results for the quantum non-Markovianity of spin ensembles undergoing pure dephasing dynamics

R. Dubertrand, Alexandre Cesa, John Martin

We study analytically the non-Markovianity of a spin ensemble, with arbitrary number of spins and spin quantum number, undergoing a pure dephasing dynamics. The system is considered as a part of a larger spin ensemble of any geometry with pairwise interactions. We derive exact formulas for the reduced dynamics of the system and for its non-Markovianity as assessed by the witness of Lorenzo et al. [Phys. Rev. A 88, 020102(R) (2013)]. The non-Markovianity is further investigated in the thermodynamic limit when the environment's size goes to infinity. In this limit and for finite-size systems, we find that the Markovian character of the system's dynamics crucially depends on the range of the interactions. We also show that when the system and its environment are initially in a product state, the appearance of non-Markovianity is independent of the entanglement generation between the system and its environment.
