Abstract

We have studied the sudden death and revival of entanglement in two V-type three-level atoms coupled to the common vacuum. results show that in the case of largely separated atoms, spontaneous emission leads to decoherence and even causes entanglement sudden death. However, the excited-state decay rate of the atom can affect the time of entanglement sudden death. In the case of closely separated atoms, due to the collective effect of atoms, the entanglement which has been dead will revive in some time. The initial entanglement and the revival of entanglement arise from different causes.

Entanglement sudden birth and sudden death in a system of two distant atoms coupled via an optical element

Maryam Ashrafi, M. H. Naderi

An investigation is reported of the collective effects and the dynamics of atom–atom entanglement in a system of two distant two-level atoms which are coupled via an optical element. In the system under consideration, the two atoms, which are trapped in the foci of a lens, are coupled to a common environment being in the vacuum state and they emit photons spontaneously. A fraction of the emitted photons from each atom is thus focused on the position of the other atom. The presence of optical element between two distant atoms leads to the occurrence of delayed collective effects, such as delayed dipole–dipole interaction and delayed collective spontaneous emission, which play the crucial role in the dynamical behaviour of the entanglement. We discuss the phenomena of entanglement sudden birth, entanglement sudden death, and revival of entanglement for both cases of initial one-photon and initial two-photon unentangled atomic states. We show that the evolution of the entanglement is sensitive not only to the interatomic distance but also to the initial state of the system as well as to the properties of the optical element.

Sudden birth and sudden death of entanglement

Z. Ficek, Tana sacute Ryszard

We discuss a simple model for creation of entanglement in a system composed of two two-level atoms interacting with a common environment. The role of the environment in entangling and disentangling of the atoms is explored. We demonstrate how the spontaneous decay of an initial excitation of the system can create a transient entanglement between the atoms. The opposite situation is also discussed where a spontaneous disentanglement of initially entangled atoms may exhibit some unusual features such as entanglement sudden birth, the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death and revival of entanglement. We provide a discussion of these unusual phenomena in terms of the density matrix elements of the system and show the connection of the phenomena with the threshold behaviour of the concurrence.

Postponing entanglement sudden death by quantum interferences

Anjali N. Nair, R. Arun

Abstract We investigate the entanglement dynamics in a 2 ⨂ 3 quantum system consisting of a two-level atom and a three-level V-type atom interacting independently with their environments. Pure and mixed initial states, including one-parameter and two-parameter states of the atoms are analyzed. It is observed that the entanglement in the qubit-qutrit system disappears in a finite time, commonly referred to as ESD (entanglement sudden death). We analytically calculate the ESD time using the negativity as an entanglement measure. Remarkably, the presence of vacuum-induced coherence in the three-level atom (qutrit) delays the occurrence of ESD and effectively protects the entanglement from decoherence.

Entanglement sudden death of higher rank boundary qubit-qutrit states

Paulson K. George

In this work, we consider non-interacting atomic two level and three level (qubit-qutrit) systems interacting with a common environment in vacuum state. The interaction with the environment leads to the decoherece of the system due to spontaneous emission of atomic excited states which results in the decay of entanglement and other correlations of the qubit-qutrit system. We study the dynamics of entanglement for different initial class of states and negativity is used as a measure to quantify the degree of entanglement of qubit-qutrit system, the three level systems are considered in V configuration. We construct a class of rank dependant mixed boundary qubit-qutrit states as initial states. We observe entanglement sudden death for higher rank mixed boundary qubit-qutrit states.

In this paper, the atomic entanglement evolution in the system of two atoms interacting with vacuum is investigated making use of Λ function and negative entanglement theory. The result shows that the sudden death and revival of the atomic entanglement, the good correspondence between Λ function and negative entanglement, the state being both mixed and separable expressed by Λ0 which can not be expressed by negative entanglement theory and C funciton, and the initial state's effect on entanglement property.

Controlling entanglement sudden birth and sudden death of two-atom X-states in Tavis-Cummings model

Shan Chuan-Jia, Jibing Liu, Tao Chen +3 more

In this paper, we investigate the entanglement dynamics of two entangled two-level atoms with initial X state and dipole-dipole coupling intensity in Tavis-Cummings model. The interesting phenomena of entanglement sudden death as well as sudden birth appear during the evolution process. We analyze in detail the effect of purity of initially entangled state of two atoms, the dipole-dipole coupling intensity between two atoms, and the field in the Fock state on the apparition time of entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth. Furthermore, the conditions for the conversion of entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth can be generalized when the initial entangled state is not pure. The results show that the above system parameters affect the concurrence, entanglement sudden birth and sudden death remarkably, the dipole-dipole coupling intensity affects amplitudes of the concurrence oscillation and leads time interval of the ESD to decrease. With the increasing of the purity, the time of entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth will decrease, it is also notable that invariant and stable entanglement, which can be controlled by different initial states of the atoms, occurs for particular initial X state.
