Quantum Random Number Generation Based on Spatial Modal Superposition over Few-Mode-Fibers

Alvaro Alarcón, Joakim Argillander, Daniel Spegel-Lexne +1 more

A quantum random number generator based on few-mode fiber technology is presented. The randomness originates from measurements of spatial modal quantum superpositions of the LP11 a and LP11 b modes. The generated sequences have passed NIST tests.

Quantum Random Number Generator with One and Two Entropy Sources

Gautam Kumar Shaw, S.R. Sivaram, Anil Prabhakar

Quantum random number generators (QRNGs) are an integral part of quantum key distribution (QKD) systems. To better understand the inherent physical processes, we compare the random numbers generated by two separate schemes, one is based on entropy (arrival time of photons) and another with an additional source of entropy (space) i.e, path superposition of arrival time of photons from a weak coherent source on a gated InGaAs single photon detector. Both experiments yield bits that appear random. However, they satisfy different criteria of randomness. The weak coherent source has a Poissonian distribution and extracting the variation about the arrival time of photons on gated SPD yields a source of random numbers that pass most of the Dieharder Tests. With the inclusion of superposition, we obtain random numbers that pass all the Dieharder tests. The physical origins of the random numbers in the two experiments is different, one is single entropy source based and other one is two entropy source based, and this is reflected in the outcomes of the different tests for randomness.

Design of High Speed Quantum Random Number Acquisition System Without Post-processing Based on Automatic Bias-correcting

Wang Jian-mi

In this article,a random number generator without post- processing, which uses the randomness of photon in optics quantum random source,is designed. The designemploys feeble light to detect at single photon level. The pulse number detected by in fixed period obeys Possion distribution, but effect of electronic components and readout electronics distorts Possion distribution. Controlling mean count can eliminate bias to achieve unbiased in statistics. High quality and high speed random numbers using automatic bias- correcting technique is producedwithout post- processing and passes all standard tests relevant for random number generators, like NIST,Diehard.

Truly random number generation based on measurement of phase noise of a laser

Hong Mei Guo, Wenzhuo Tang, Yu Liu +1 more

We present a simple approach to realize truly random number generator based on measuring the phase noise of a single-mode vertical cavity surface emitting laser. The true randomness of the quantum phase noise originates from the spontaneous emission of photons and the random bit generation rate is ultimately limited only by the laser linewidth. With the final bit generation rate of 20 Mbit/s, the truly random bit sequence guaranteed by the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics passes the three standard randomness tests (ENT, Diehard, and NIST Statistical Test Suites). Moreover, a continuously generated random bit sequence, with length up to 14 Gbit, is verified by two additional criteria for its true randomness.
