Abstract

Enhanced Raman scattering can be obtained by the initially prepared atomic spin excitation, or by injecting a seeded light field which is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin excitation. This paper theoretically calculated the quantum fluctuations of the quadrature components of the two-mode photon-atom quantum interface and found that the enhanced Raman scattering based on coherence can improve the initial photon-atom squeezing slightly in a certain scope, and correlation-enhanced Raman scattering can produce strong two-mode squeezing of photon-atom. Such a strong two-mode squeezed state at the photon-atom interface has very important applications in precision measurement research based on the light field and atomic system.

Correlation-enhanced phase-sensitive Raman scattering in atomic vapors

Chun-Hua Yuan, L. Q. Chen, Z. Y. Ou +1 more

We theoretically propose a method to enhance Raman scattering by injecting a seeded light field which is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin wave. Such a light-atom correlation leads to an interference in the Raman scattering. The interference is sensitive to the relative phase between the seeded light field and initially prepared atomic spin wave. For constructive interference, the Raman scattering is greatly enhanced. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may find applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and optical metrology due to its simplicity.

Entanglement enhanced phase sensitive Raman scattering in atomic vapors

Chun-Hua Yuan, L. Q. Chen, Z. Y. Ou +1 more

We theoretically present a new method to enhance Raman scattering by injecting seeded light field that is entangled with the initially prepared atomic spin wave. From theoretical analysis and numerical calculation, we find that strong Raman scattering can be obtained. Different from other enhancement mechanisms, the entanglement enhanced Raman scattering is phase sensitive. Such an enhancement method in Raman scattering may have practical applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics and optical metrology due to its simplicity.

Quantum-field coherence in a Raman amplifier

Kee Choon Yeong, Joseph W. Haus, Alexei Vladimirovich Chizhov

We investigate the dynamics of a two-mode stimulated Raman scattering model including propagation and the quantum correlations that develop between the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields. For example, under certain conditions two-mode squeezed states can result. We report results for quadrature squeezing and sum squeezing. Quadrature squeezing only occurs when the anti-Stokes coupling constant is larger than the Stokes coupling constant. The amount of squeezing increases as the damping of the material polarization is increased. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Squeezing Properties of Light of Two Identical Two-Level Entangled Atoms Raman Interacting With Coherent State

Jun Song

In this article, the squeezing properties of light in the system of two identical two-level entangled atoms Raman interacting with the coherent optical field are studied. The results obtained by numerical method show that light squeezing effects depend on the mean photon numbers of the coherent optical field and the degree of entanglement of the initial two identical two-level entangled atoms, with the increasing of the degree of entanglement of the initial two entangled atoms, the average value of the fluctuation of two quadrature components of light decreases and the squeezing time is prolonged.

Surface-enhanced stimulated Raman spectroscopy with squeezed photonic states

Frank Hagelberg, Ali Passian

Recent advances in generating light in specific quantum states facilitate new sensing applications and enhance or revitalize established measurement and sensing techniques. Stimulated Raman spectroscopy (SRS), a measurement modality based on Raman scattering, could benefit from tuning the quantum properties of the pump and the Stokes lights or the properties of quantum states of the stimulating and excitation fields. Additionally, this modality could also benefit from field enhancement accompanied by plasmon excitation in the surface regions of metal nanoparticles. We present a theoretical investigation of stimulated Raman scattering involving squeezed states of light. The concept of surface- and quantum-enhanced stimulated Raman scattering is introduced. Furthermore, expressions for the respective SRS transition rates are derived, and their dependence on the quantum states of the optical field is discussed, with particular emphasis on the squeezing parameters characterizing these states. For cases involving surface enhancements, we also employ classical computational electrodynamics to guide our exploration of atomically large systems that support plasmon excitation.

Squeezed Light from Spin-Squeezed Atoms

Uffe V. Poulsen, Klaus Mølmer

We propose to transfer quantum correlations from atoms to light by Raman scattering of a strong laser pulse on a spin-squeezed atomic sample. We prove that the emission is restricted to a single field mode which perfectly inherits the quantum correlations of the atomic system.
