Abstract

We theoretically propose a method to enhance Raman scattering by injecting a seeded light field which is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin wave. Such a light-atom correlation leads to an interference in the Raman scattering. The interference is sensitive to the relative phase between the seeded light field and initially prepared atomic spin wave. For constructive interference, the Raman scattering is greatly enhanced. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may find applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and optical metrology due to its simplicity.

We theoretically present a new method to enhance Raman scattering by injecting seeded light field that is entangled with the initially prepared atomic spin wave. From theoretical analysis and numerical calculation, we find that strong Raman scattering can be obtained. Different from other enhancement mechanisms, the entanglement enhanced Raman scattering is phase sensitive. Such an enhancement method in Raman scattering may have practical applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics and optical metrology due to its simplicity.

Cascade correlation-enhanced Raman scattering in atomic vapors

Hongmei Ma, L. Q. Chen, Chun-Hua Yuan

A new Raman process can be used to realize efficient Raman frequency conversion by coherent feedback at low light intensity [Chen B, Zhang K, Bian C L, Qiu C, Yuan C H, Chen L Q, Ou Z Y, and Zhang W P 2013 Opt. Express 21 , 10490]. We present a theoretical model to describe this enhanced Raman process, termed as cascade correlation-enhanced Raman scattering, which is a Raman process injected by a seeded light field. It is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin excitation and driven by the quasi-standing-wave pump fields, and the processes are repeated until the Stokes intensities are saturated. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may find applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and optical metrology due to its simplicity.

Phase sensitive Raman process with correlated seeds

Bing Chen, Cheng Qiu, L. Q. Chen +5 more

A phase sensitive Raman scattering was experimentally demonstrated by injecting a Stokes light seed into an atomic ensemble, whose internal state is set in such a way that it is coherent with the input Stokes seed. Such phase sensitive characteristic is a result of interference effect due to the phase correlation between the injected Stokes light field and the internal state of the atomic ensemble in the Raman process. Furthermore, the constructive interference leads to a Raman efficiency larger than other kinds of Raman processes such as stimulated Raman process with Stokes seed injection alone or uncorrelated light-atom seeding. It may find applications in precision spectroscopy, quantum optics, and precise measurement.

Coherently enhanced Raman scattering in atomic vapor

Chun-Hua Yuan, L. Q. Chen, Jietai Jing +2 more

We present a scheme to obtain the coherently enhanced Raman scattering in atomic vapor which is induced by a spin wave initially written by a weak write laser. The enhancement of Raman scattering is dependent on the number and the spatial distribution of the flipped atoms generated by the weak write laser. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may have practical applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and laser spectroscopy because of its simplicity.

Enhanced Raman scattering by spatially distributed atomic coherence

L. Q. Chen, Guo-Wan Zhang, Chun-Hua Yuan +3 more

We demonstrate experimentally an enhancement in Raman scattering in Rb atomic vapor due to the atomic coherence initially prepared by a weak write laser. We find that the enhanced Raman scattering depends on the spatial distribution of the atomic spin coherence and can be explained with a simple picture of three-wave mixing. This effect can in principle be used to have a light conversion efficiency near unity in Raman process. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may have practical applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and laser spectroscopy.

Generation of two-mode photon-atom quadrature squeezing based on enhanced raman scattering

Enhanced Raman scattering can be obtained by the initially prepared atomic spin excitation, or by injecting a seeded light field which is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin excitation. This paper theoretically calculated the quantum fluctuations of the quadrature components of the two-mode photon-atom quantum interface and found that the enhanced Raman scattering based on coherence can improve the initial photon-atom squeezing slightly in a certain scope, and correlation-enhanced Raman scattering can produce strong two-mode squeezing of photon-atom. Such a strong two-mode squeezed state at the photon-atom interface has very important applications in precision measurement research based on the light field and atomic system.
