Fabrication, testing, and assembly of high-finesse optical fiber microcavity for molecule cavity QED experiment

Yuhao Pan, Li Li, Xiaolong Zhou +5 more

The ultracold molecule is a promising candidate for versatile quantum tasks due to its long-range interaction and rich internal rovibrational states. With the help of the cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) effects, an optical cavity can be employed to increase the efficiency of the formation of the photoassociated molecules and offers a non-demolition detection of the internal states of molecules. Here, we demonstrate the production of the high-finesse optical fiber microcavity for the Rb 2 molecule cavity QED experiment, which includes the fabrication of fiber-based cavity mirrors, testing, and the assembly of ultra-high vacuum-compatible optical fiber microcavity. The optical fiber microcavity offers high cooperativity between cavity mode and ultracold molecule and paves the way for the study of molecule cavity QED experimental research.

Control of Light Pulse Propagation with Only a Few Cold Atoms in a High-Finesse Microcavity

Yukiko SHIMIZU, Noritsugu Shiokawa, Noriaki Yamamoto +4 more

Propagation of a light pulse through a high-Q optical microcavity containing a few cold atoms (N<10) in its cavity mode is investigated experimentally. With less than ten cold rubidium atoms launched into an optical microcavity, up to 170 ns propagation lead time ("superluminal"), and 440 ns propagation delay time (subluminal) are observed. Comparison of the experimental data with numerical simulations as well as future experiments are discussed.

Ultrafast High-Fidelity State Readout of Single Neutral Atom

Jian Wang, Dong-Yu Huang, Xiao-Long Zhou +6 more

The capability to measure the state of a neutral atom is vital to an atom-based quantum network, for applications including distributed quantum computing and long-distance quantum communication. However, single neutral atoms suffer from low achievable photon scattering rate and shallow trapping potential, which limits the fidelity and speed of state readout process. Here, by coupling a single neutral atom with a high-finesse fiber-based Fabry-Pérot microcavity in the Purcell regime, we realize strong enhancement of the atomic photoemission rate and high overall system efficiency, which enables ultrafast and high-fidelity discrimination of bright and dark hyperfine states of the atom. The readout fidelity can reach 99.1(2)% within 200 ns and 99.985(8)% within 9 μs. Furthermore, we demonstrate that state preparation via optical pumping can be efficiently accelerated by a real-time decision protocol based on ultrafast state readout. This work demonstrates the potential to serve as a high-performance atom-photon interface and paves the way to the implementation of a practical atom-based quantum network.
