Quantum correlation cost of the weak measurement

Abstract

Quantum correlation cost (QCC) characterizing how much quantum correlation is used in a weak-measurement process is presented based on the trace norm. It is shown that the QCC is related to the trace-norm-based quantum discord (TQD) by only a factor that is determined by the strength of the weak measurement, so it only catches partial quantumness of a quantum system compared with the TQD. We also find that the residual quantumness can be `extracted' not only by the further von Neumann measurement, but also by a sequence of infinitesimal weak measurements. As an example, we demonstrate our outcomes by the Bell-diagonal state.

Non-commutativity measure of quantum discord

Yu Jing Guo

Quantum discord is a manifestation of quantum correlations due to non-commutativity rather than entanglement. Two measures of quantum discord by the amount of non-commutativity via the trace norm and the Hilbert-Schmidt norm respectively are proposed in this paper. These two measures can be calculated easily for any state with arbitrary dimension. It is shown by several examples that these measures can reflect the amount of the original quantum discord.

Dynamics of super-quantum discord and direct control with weak measurement in open quantum system

Yinghua Ji

Super-quantum discord (SQD) with weak measurement is regarded as a kind of quantum correlation in quantum information processing. We compare and analyze the dynamical evolutions of SQD, quantum discord (QD), and quantum entanglement (QE) between two qubits in the correlated dephasing environmental model. The results indicate that (i) owing to the much smaller influence of weak measurement on the coherence of the system than that of von Neumann projection measurement, SQD with weak measurement is larger than QD, and (ii) dynamical evolution of QD or QE monotonically goes to zero with time, while SQD monotonically tends to a stable value and a freezing phenomenon occurs. The stable value after freezing mainly depends on the measurement strength and the purity of the initial quantum state.

Dynamics of the Quantum Discord with Weak Measurement for a Two-atom System in Thermal Reservoirs

Mei Bai, Hong Jia Xu, Xue Qun Yan

Weak measurement is a kind of state partial collapse measurement developed on the basis of von Neumann measurement and positive operator value measurement, which allows us to explore the quantum world which has the least influence on the research system. Based on the weak measurement theory, the dynamics of quantum discord for two isolated atoms in their own thermal reservoirs is presented. We examine the time evolution of both standard quantum discord and quantum discord with weak measurement for the two-atom system, and analyzes the differences between the standard quantum discord and quantum discord with weak measurement in the evolution process with time, as well as the general role of the strength parameter in determing the discord and affecting its dynamic evolution. We show that quantum discords depend on how weak or strong one perturbs the quantum system. We also show that the difference of the standard quantum discord and the quantum discord with weak measurements increases as the strength parameter decreases. This means that the weak measurements can capture more quantum discord of a bipartite system. Our results show that the weak measurement performed on one of the subsystems can lead to the quantum discord that is a more natural measure of quantum correlations than the standard quantum discord captured by the projective measurements.

Linking Quantum Discord to Entanglement in a Measurement

Alexander Streltsov, Hermann Kampermann, Dagmar Bruß

We show that a von Neumann measurement on a part of a composite quantum system unavoidably creates distillable entanglement between the measurement apparatus and the system if the state has nonzero quantum discord. The minimal distillable entanglement is equal to the one-way information deficit. The quantum discord is shown to be equal to the minimal partial distillable entanglement that is the part of entanglement which is lost, when we ignore the subsystem which is not measured. We then show that any entanglement measure corresponds to some measure of quantum correlations. This powerful correspondence also yields necessary properties for quantum correlations. We generalize the results to multipartite measurements on a part of the system and on the total system.

Quantum discord with weak measurement operators of quasi-Werner states based on bipartite entangled coherent states

E. Castro, Rodrigo Gómez, Celso L. Ladera +1 more

Among many applications quantum weak measurements have been shown to be important in exploring fundamental physics issues, such as the experimental violation of the Heisenberg uncertainty relation and the Hardy paradox, and have also technological implications in quantum optics, quantum metrology and quantum communications, where the precision of the measurement is as important as the precision of quantum state preparation. The theory of weak measurement can be formulated using the pre-and post-selected quantum systems, as well as using the weak measurement operator formalism. In this work, we study the quantum discord (QD) of quasi-Werner mixed states based on bipartite entangled coherent states using the weak measurements operator, instead of the projective measurement operators. We then compare the quantum discord for both kinds of measurement operators, in terms of the entanglement quality, the latter being measured using the concept of concurrence. It’s found greater quantum correlations using the weak measurement operators.

From quantum coherence to quantum correlations

Yuan Sun, Yuanyuan Mao, Shunlong Luo

In quantum mechanics, quantum coherence of a state relative to a quantum measurement can be identified with the quantumness that has to be destroyed by the measurement. In particular, quantum coherence of a bipartite state relative to a local quantum measurement encodes quantum correlations in the state. If one takes minimization with respect to the local measurements, then one is led to quantifiers which capture quantum correlations from the perspective of coherence. In this vein, quantum discord, which quantifies the minimal correlations that have to be destroyed by quantum measurements, can be identified as the minimal coherence, with the coherence measured by the relative entropy of coherence. To advocate and formulate this idea in a general context, we first review coherence relative to Lüders measurements which extends the notion of coherence relative to von Neumann measurements (or equivalently, orthonomal bases), and highlight the observation that quantum discord arises as minimal coherence through two prototypical examples. Then, we introduce some novel measures of quantum correlations in terms of coherence, illustrate them through examples, investigate their fundamental properties and implications, and indicate their applications to quantum metrology.
