Ultracold atoms interacting with a sinusoidal mode of a high-Q cavity

Abstract

We consider the interaction of two level ultracold atoms resonant with a sinusoidal mode of the electromagnetic field in a high Q cavity. We found that well resolved resonances appear in the transmission coefficients even for actual interaction and cavity parameters. The probability of emission of one photon and the probability of transmission of an atom, when a number of coherent states is initially present in the cavity, are discussed. The interplay between the increasing width of the resonances and multi-peak steady-state photon-statistics is also studied. Furthermore, we compare our results with those of a constant field mode.

We consider that an ultracold two-level atom passes through multi spatially separated single-mode cavity fields and investigate the influence of the center-of-mass motion of the atom, the length of the cavity and the separation between two cavities on the transmission and photon emission probabilities of the atom. We find that both the transmission and photon emission probabilities as functions of the cavity length have multi-resonance peaks when the separation between two cavities is equal to an integer multiple of half the de Broglie wavelength of the atomic center-of-mass motion. The present work shows that the wave function of the atomic center-of-mass motion may be modulated in a macroscopic level by arranging the cavities.

Dynamics of an ultracold cascade three-level atom interacting with a two-mode cavity field

Zhi‐Ming Zhang, Sien Chi, Bing-Chung Cheng

The interaction between an ultracold cascade three-level atom and a two-mode cavity field has been studied. The effects of the centre-of-mass motion, the cavity length, the coupling constants, the initial field states and the initial field intensity on the atomic dynamics have been examined. We have found that the population probabilities show dependence on the interaction time in the fast-atom region while they show dependence on the interaction length in the slow-atom region. The variations of the probabilities versus the cavity length show resonant peaks, and the peaks become sharper as the atom moves more slowly. The coupling constants, the initial field states and the initial field intensity also influence the atomic dynamics significantly. The two transitions are competitive for the atomic probability in the middle state, while they are cooperative for that in the lower state.

Cavity field spectra of the nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model

M. M. Ashraf

The cavity field spectra for various initial fields of a nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings Model are investigated. It is shown that the two-peak structure due to the resonant interaction between a single two-level atom and two different mode fields inside a high-Q cavity persists for coherent and thermal cases. Moreover, coherent sidebands appear for a coherent field whose widths are governed by the field statistics. However, squeezed vacuum fields exhibit rather different features showing the classical resonance fluorescence spectra at large n\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{} (even in two-photon transitions).

Cavity Field Spectra of Two Atoms Interacting with Two-mode Field in Coherent States

Gao Yun-feng

The cavity field spectra of two atoms interacting with two-mode field with different coupling constant via two-photon resonant transition processes are investigated. The results for the initial fields in coherent states are presented. The effects of relative coupling constant R=g_2/g_1 and initial field intensity on the spectrum structure are discussed. It is found that the each mode spectrum appears generally two peeks for weak initial fields and three peeks for strong fields.

Dynamics of several two-level atoms in a one-mode cavity

P. Schwendimann, A. Quattropani

The dynamics of few two-level atoms interacting with one cavity mode is described in master equation formalism. Two different configurations are considered: a transient one with all atoms initially in the excited state and a stationary one where a coherent pump acts on either the atoms or the cavity mode. Superradiance, resonant scattering and switching between a low and a high emission state are considered. Cooperation and decoherence as well as the statistics of the emitted radiation field in both cases are discussed.

Dark states and interferences in cascade transitions of ultracold atoms in a cavity

R. Arun, G. S. Agarwal

We examine the competition among one- and two-photon processes in an ultracold, three-level atom undergoing cascade transitions as a result of its interaction with a bimodal cavity. We show parameter domains where two-photon transitions are dominant, and we also study the effect of two-photon emission on the mazer action in the cavity. The two-photon emission leads to the loss of detailed balance and therefore we obtain the photon statistics of the cavity field by the numerical integration of the master equation. The photon distribution in each cavity mode exhibits sub- and super-Poissonian behaviors depending on the strength of atom-field coupling. The photon distribution becomes identical to a Poisson distribution when the atom-field coupling strengths of the modes are equal.
