Abstract

A detailed experimental investigation is made in the intracavity V-type electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of the Rb atomic medium at room temperature. The optical pumping effect will increase the transparency for the V-type EIT at room temperature and therefore the cavity linewidth can be narrowed apparently. For the seven EITs observed in our previous study, cavity linewidth narrowing is observed in all of them. More importantly, we find that the cavity linewidth can keep at 1.2 MHz over a wide frequency range of 100 MHz by utilizing the central double-peak-structure EIT. This property provides a novel way for constructing a high resolution tunable frequency reference via the intracavity EIT.

Realization of cavity linewidth narrowing via interacting dark resonances in a tripod-type electromagnetically induced transparency system

Ying Bo Kang, Yueping Niu, Dijun Chen +3 more

Cavity linewidth narrowing via double-dark resonances is experimentally observed using the Rb87 Zeeman splitting sublevels. With the steep dispersion led by the interacting dark resonances in the tripod-type electromagnetically induced transparency system, we narrow the cavity linewidth to 250 kHz at room temperature. Furthermore, the position of this ultranarrow cavity linewidth can be tuned in a 60 MHz coupling field detuning range.

Cavity-linewidth narrowing by means of electromagnetically induced transparency

Hai Wang, David J. Goorskey, W. H. Burkett +1 more

Cavity-linewidth narrowing in a ring cavity that is due to the high dispersion and reduced absorption produced by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in rubidium-atom vapor has been experimentally observed. The cavity linewidth with rubidium atoms under EIT conditions can be significantly narrowed. Cavity-linewidth narrowing was measured as a function of coupling beam power.

Intracavity electromagnetically induced transparency

Mikhail D. Lukin, Michael Fleischhauer, Marlan O. Scully +1 more

The effect of intracavity electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) on the properties of optical resonators and active laser devices is discussed theoretically. Pronounced frequency pulling and cavity-linewidth narrowing are predicted. The EIT effect can be used to reduce classical and quantum-phase noise of the beat note of an optical oscillator substantially. Fundamental limits of this stabilization mechanism as well as its potential application to high-resolution spectroscopy are discussed.

Ultra-narrow bandwidth tunable atomic filter based on electromagnetically induced transparency

Yang Liu, Xiao-Xao Wang, Zhi‐Hui Kang +3 more

We present an experimental study on the ultra-narrow bandwidth tunable atomic filter with electromagnetically induced transparency at 795 nm in rubidium vapor. The filter achieves a peak transmission of 8% and a linewidth of 15 MHz. The transmission peak can be tuned within the range of the Doppler linewidth. There is just one transmission peak, all other frequencies of light cannot pass through the filter.
