Functional relations for the order parameters of the chiral Potts model: low-temperature expansions

Abstract

This is the third in a series of papers in which we set up and discuss the functional relations for the “split rapidity line” correlation function in the N-state chiral Potts model. The order parameters of the model can be obtained from this function. Here we consider the case N=3 and write the equations explicitly in terms of the hyperelliptic functions parametrization. We also present four-term low-temperature series expansions, which we hope will cast light on the analyticity properties needed to solve the relations. The problem remains unsolved, but we hope that this will prove to be a step in the right direction.

Hyperelliptic parametrization of the generalized order parameter of the N=3 chiral Potts model

R. J. Baxter

It has been known for some time that the Boltzmann weights of the chiral Potts model can be parametrized in terms of hyperelliptic functions, but as yet no such parametrization has been applied to the partition and correlation functions. Here we show that for N=3 the function $S(t_p)$ that occurs in the recent calculation of the order parameters can be expressed quite simply in terms of such a parametrization.

The chiral Potts models revisited

Helen Au-Yang, Jacques H. H. Perk

In honor of Onsager’s ninetieth birthday, we like to review some exact results obtained so far in the chiral Potts models and to translate these results into language more transparent to physicists, so that experts in Monte Carlo calculations, high and low temperature expansions, and various other methods, can use them. We shall pay special attention to the interfacial tension ǫr between the k state and the k −r state. By examining the ground states, it is seen that the integrable line ends at a superwetting point, on which the relation ǫr = r ǫ1 is satisfied, so that it is energetically neutral to have one interface or more. We present also some partial results on the meaning of the integrable line for low temperatures where it lives in the non-wet regime. We make Baxter’s exact results more explicit for the symmetric case. By performing a Bethe Ansatz calculation with open boundary conditions we confirm a dilogarithm identity for the low-temperature expansion which may be new. We propose a new model for numerical studies. This model has only two variables and exhibits commensurate and incommensurate phase transitions and wetting transitions near zero temperature. It appears to be not integrable, except at one point, and at each temperature there is a point, where it is almost identical with the integrable chiral Potts model. Series studies of the Potts model: III. The 3-state model on the simple cubic lattice

Anthony John Guttmann, Ian Graham Enting

For paper II, see ibid, vol. 27, p.1503 (1994). The finite-lattice method of series expansion has been used to extend low-temperature series for the partition function, order parameter and susceptibility of the 3-state Potts model on the simple cubic lattice to order z 43 and the high-temperature expansion of the partition function to order v 21 . We use the numerical data to show that the transition is first-order, and estimate the latent heat, the discontinuity in the magnetization, and a number of other critical parameters.

Low-temperature expansions and correlation functions of the Z3-chiral Potts model

N S Han, A. Honecker

Using perturbative methods we derive new results for the spectrum and correlation functions of the general Z 3 -chiral Potts quantum chain in the massive low-temperature phase. Explicit calculations of the ground-state energy and the first excitations in the zero momentum sector give excellent approximations and confirm the general statement that the spectrum in the low-temperature phase of general Z n -spin quantum chains is identical to one in the high-temperature phase where the role of charge and boundary conditions are interchanged. Using a perturbative expansion of the ground state for the Z 3 model we are able to gain some insight into correlation functions. We argue that they might be oscillating and give estimates for the oscillation length as well as the correlation length.

A Perturbative Approach to the Chiral Potts Model

A. Honecker

The massive high-temperature phase of the chiral Potts quantum chain is studied using perturbative methods. For the Z_3-chain we present high-temperature expansions for the groundstate energy and the dispersion relations of the two single-particle states as well as two-particle states at general values of the parameters. We also present a perturbative argument showing that a large class of massive Z_n-spin quantum chains have quasiparticle spectra with n-1 fundamental particles. It is known from earlier investigations that -at special values of the parameters- some of the fundamental particles exist only for limited ranges of the momentum. In these regimes our argument is not rigorous as one can conclude from a discussion of the radius of convergence of the perturbation series. We also derive correlation functions from a perturbative evaluation of the groundstate for the Z_3-chain. In addition to an exponential decay we observe an oscillating contribution. The oscillation length seems to be related to the asymmetry of the dispersion relations. We show that this relation is exact at special values of the parameters for general Z_n using a form factor expansion.
