Quantum Filtering for Multiple Input Multiple Output Systems Driven by Arbitrary Zero-Mean Jointly Gaussian Input Fields∗

Abstract

In this paper, we treat the quantum filtering problem for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) Markovian open quantum systems coupled to multiple boson fields in an arbitrary zero-mean jointly Gaussian state, using the reference probability approach formulated by Bouten and van Handel as a quantum version of a well-known method of the same name from classical nonlinear filtering theory, and exploiting the generalized Araki-Woods representation of Gough. This includes Gaussian field states such as vacuum, squeezed vacuum, thermal, and squeezed thermal states as special cases. The contribution is a derivation of the general quantum filtering equation (or stochastic master equation as they are known in the quantum optics community) in the full MIMO setup for any zero-mean jointly Gaussian input field states, up to some mild rank assumptions on certain matrices relating to the measurement vector.

Quantum Filtering for Squeezed Noise Inputs

John Gough, Dylon Rees

We derive the quantum filter for a quantum open system undergoing quadrature measurements (homodyning) where the input field is in a general quasi-free state. This extends previous work for thermal input noise and allows for squeezed inputs. We introduce a convenient class of Bogoliubov transformations which we refer to as balanced and formulate the quantum stochastic model with squeezed noise as an Araki-Woods type representation. We make an essential use of the Tomita-Takesaki theory to construct the commutant of the C*-algebra describing the inputs and obtain the filtering equations using the quantum reference probability technique. The derived quantum filter must be independent of the choice of representation and this is achieved by fixing an independent quadrature in the commutant algebra.

A phase-space formulation of the Belavkin-Kushner-Stratonovich filtering equation for nonlinear quantum stochastic systems

Vladimirov, IG

This paper is concerned with a filtering problem for a\nclass of nonlinear quantum stochastic systems with multichannel nondemolition\nmeasurements. The system-observation dynamics are governed\nby a Markovian Hudson-Parthasarathy quantum stochastic differential\nequation driven by quantum Wiener processes of bosonic fields in vacuum\nstate. The Hamiltonian and system-field coupling operators, as functions\nof the system variables, are represented in a Weyl quantization form.\nUsing the Wigner-Moyal phase-space framework, we obtain a stochastic\nintegro-differential equation for the posterior quasi-characteristic function\n(QCF) of the system conditioned on the measurements. This equation\nis a spatial Fourier domain representation of the Belavkin-Kushner-\nStratonovich stochastic master equation driven by the innovation process\nassociated with the measurements. We also discuss a more specific form\nof the posterior QCF dynamics in the case of linear system-field coupling\nand outline a Gaussian approximation of the posterior quantum state.

Quantum Trajectories for Squeezed Input Processes: Explicit Solutions

Anita Magdalena Dąbrowska, John Edward Gough

We consider the quantum (trajectories) filtering equation for the case when the system is driven by Bose field inputs prepared in an arbitrary non-zero mean Gaussian state. The a posteriori evolution of the system is conditioned by the results of a single or double homodyne measurements. The system interacting with the Bose field is a single cavity mode taken initially in a Gaussian state. We show explicit solutions using the method of characteristic functions to the filtering equations exploiting the linear Gaussian nature of the problem.
