Abstract

Abstract. We investigate a class of operators resulting from a quantization scheme attributed to Berezin. These so-called Berezin-Toeplitz operators are defined on a Hilbert space of square-integrable holomorphic sections in a line bundle over the classical phase space. In this paper we consider self-adjoint Berezin-Toeplitz operators associated with semibounded quadratic forms. Following a concept of Daubechies and Klauder, the semigroups generated by these operators may under certain conditions be represented in the form of Wiener-regularized path integrals. More explicitly, the integration is taken over Brownian-motion paths in phase space in the ultra-diffusive limit. All results are the consequence of a relation between Berezin-Toeplitz operators and Schrödinger operators defined via certain quadratic forms. The probabilistic representation is derived in conjunction with a version of the Feynman-Kac formula. 1.

Feynman formulae and phase space Feynman path integrals for tau-quantization of some Lévy-Khintchine type Hamilton functions

Yana A. Butko, Martin Grothaus, Oleg G. Smolyanov

Evolution semigroups generated by pseudo-differential operators are considered. These operators are obtained by different (parameterized by a number τ) procedures of quantization from a certain class of functions (or symbols) defined on the phase space. This class contains Hamilton functions of particles with variable mass in magnetic and potential fields and more general symbols given by the Lévy-Khintchine formula. The considered semigroups are represented as limits of n-fold iterated integrals when n tends to infinity. Such representations are called Feynman formulae. Some of these representations are constructed with the help of another pseudo-differential operator, obtained by the same procedure of quantization; such representations are called Hamiltonian Feynman formulae. Some representations are based on integral operators with elementary kernels; these are called Lagrangian Feynman formulae. Langrangian Feynman formulae provide approximations of evolution semigroups, suitable for direct computations and numerical modeling of the corresponding dynamics. Hamiltonian Feynman formulae allow to represent the considered semigroups by means of Feynman path integrals. In the article, a family of phase space Feynman pseudomeasures corresponding to different procedures of quantization is introduced. The considered evolution semigroups are represented as phase space Feynman path integrals with respect to these Feynman pseudomeasures, i.e., different quantizations correspond to Feynman path integrals with the same integrand but with respect to different pseudomeasures. This answers Berezin’s problem of distinguishing a procedure of quantization on the language of Feynman path integrals. Moreover, the obtained Lagrangian Feynman formulae allow also to calculate these phase space Feynman path integrals and to connect them with some functional integrals with respect to probability measures.

Feynman formulas and path integrals for some evolution semigroups related to τ-quantization

Björn Böttcher, Yana A. Butko, René L. Schilling +1 more

This note is devoted to Feynman formulas (i.e., representations of semigroups by limits of n -fold iterated integrals as n → ∞) and their connections with phase space Feynman path integrals. Some pseudodifferential operators corresponding to different types of quantization of a quadratic Hamiltonian function are considered. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Feynman formulas for semigroups generated by these operators are obtained. Further, a construction of Hamiltonian (phase space) Feynman path integrals is introduced. Due to this construction, the Hamiltonian Feynman formulas obtained here and in our previous papers do coincide with Hamiltonian Feynman path integrals. This connects phase space Feynman path integrals with some integrals with respect to probability measures. These connections enable us to make a contribution to the theory of phase space Feynman path integrals, to prove the existence of some of these integrals, and to study their properties by means of stochastic analysis. The Feynman path integrals thus obtained are different for different types of quantization. This makes it possible to distinguish the process of quantization in the language of Feynman path integrals.

Quantum-mechanical path integrals with Wiener measure for all polynomial Hamiltonians. II

Ingrid C. Daubechies, John R. Klauder

The coherent-state representation of quantum-mechanical propagators as well-defined phase-space path integrals involving Wiener measure on continuous phase-space paths in the limit that the diffusion constant diverges is formulated and proved. This construction covers a wide class of self-adjoint Hamiltonians, including all those which are polynomials in the Heisenberg operators; in fact, this method also applies to maximal symmetric Hamiltonians that do not possess a self-adjoint extension. This construction also leads to a natural covariance of the path integral under canonical transformations. An entirely parallel discussion for spin variables leads to the representation of the propagator for an arbitrary spin-operator Hamiltonian as well-defined path integrals involving Wiener measure on the unit sphere, again in the limit that the diffusion constant diverges.

RKHS, Berezin- and Odzijewicz-type quantizations on arbitrary compact smooth manifolds

Rukmini Dey

In this paper, we define Berezin-type and Odzijewicz-type quantizations on compact smooth manifolds. The method is as follows: we embed the smooth manifold of real dimension [Formula: see text] into [Formula: see text] and induce the quantizations from there. The standard way by which reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces are defined on submanifolds gives a way to define the pullback coherent states. In Berezin-type quantization, the Hilbert space of quantization is the pullback (by the embedding) of the Hilbert space of geometric quantization of [Formula: see text]. In the Odzijewicz-type quantization, one has to consider a tensor product of the geometric quantization line bundle with holomorphic [Formula: see text]-forms. In the Berezin case, the operators that are quantized are those induced from the ambient space [Formula: see text]. The Berezin-type quantization exhibited here is a generalization of an earlier work of the author and Ghosh. In both Berezin- and Odzijewicz-type quantizations, we first exhibit this quantization explicitly on [Formula: see text] and we induce the quantization on the smooth compact embedded manifold from [Formula: see text].

Quasiclassical path integral in coherent-state manifolds

E. A. Kochetov

Quantization of classical dynamical systems with a Poisson structure on homogeneous Kähler manifolds is considered. The quantization follows the method invented by Berezin and represents the unitary transition operator as a quasiclassical path integral in the coherent-state basis. In case the coherent-state manifold appears as a (degenerate) rank-one co-adjoint orbit of the symmetry group, an explicit representation of the transition amplitude in terms of classical data can be derived for large values of the highest weight, which corresponds to the quasiclassical approximation. This representation is further shown to perfectly agree, in contrast to some earlier approaches, with the known exact results and may provide non-trivial asymptotics of physical relevance.
