Vacuum energy of Schrodinger operators on metric graphs

Abstract

We present an integral formulation of the vacuum energy of Schrödinger operators on finite metric graphs. Local vertex matching conditions on the graph are classified according to the general scheme of Kostrykin and Schrader. While the vacuum energy of the graph can contain finite ambiguities the Casimir force on a bond with compactly supported potential is well defined. The vacuum energy is determined from the zeta function of the graph Schrödinger operator which is derived from an appropriate secular equation via the argument principle. A quantum graph has an associated probabilistic classical dynamics which is generically both ergodic and mixing. The results therefore present an analytic formulation of the vacuum energy of this quasi-one-dimensional quantum system which is classically chaotic.

Time evolution and the Schrödinger equation on time dependent quantum graphs *

Uzy Smilansky, Gilad Sofer

Abstract The purpose of the present paper is to discuss the time dependent Schrödinger equation on a metric graph with time-dependent edge lengths, and the proper way to pose the problem so that the corresponding time evolution is unitary. We show that the well posedness of the Schrödinger equation can be guaranteed by replacing the standard Kirchhoff Laplacian with a magnetic Schrödinger operator with a harmonic potential. We then generalize the result to time dependent families of vertex conditions. We also apply the theory to show the existence of a geometric phase associated with a slowly changing quantum graph.

A star-graph model via operator extension

B. S. Pavlov

Abstract One usually assumes that the Schrödinger operator on a thin quantum network (“fattened graph”) can be simulated by the ordinary Schrödinger operator on the corresponding one-dimensional quantum graph. On the other hand, each quantum graph can be constructed of standard elements – star graphs. We prove that a thin star-shaped quantum network which consists of a compact domain and a few straight semi-infinite quantum wires, with a two-dimensional Schrödinger operator on it, can be simulated by the corresponding solvable model in form of a one-dimensional star graph: an outer space, with an ordinary Schrödinger operator on the leads, a resonance vertex supplied with an inner space and a finite matrix in it and an appropriate boundary condition connecting the inner and outer components of elements from the domain of the model. The model is (locally) quantitatively consistent: the scattering matrix of the model on a certain spectral interval serves an approximation of the scattering matrix of the network. The role of the constructed star-graph model as a “jump-start” in analytic perturbation procedure on continuous spectrum is discussed.

Quantum Energy of a Particle in a Finite-potential Well Based Upon Golden Metric Tensor

I. I. Ewa, S. X. K. Howusu, Lucas Williams Lumbi

In our previous work titled “Riemannian Quantum Theory of a Particle in a Finite-Potential Well", we constructed the Riemannian Laplacian operator and used it to obtain the Riemannian Schrodinger equation for a particle in a finite-potential well. In this work, we solved the golden Riemannian Schrodinger equation analytically to obtain the particle energy. The solution resulted in two expressions for the energy of a particle in a finite-potential well. One of the expressions is for the odd energy levels while the other is for the even energy levels.

On the distribution of energy of localized solutions of the Schrödinger equation that propagate along symmetric quantum graphs

А. И. Шафаревич

From the point of view of applications to quantum mechanics, it is natural to pose a question concerning the distribution of energy of localized solutions of a nonstationary Schrödinger equation over the graph (in other words, the probability to find a quantum particle in a given area). This problem is apparently very complicated for general graphs, because the energy distribution is much more sensitive to the form of boundary conditions and to the initial state than the asymptotic behavior of the number of localized functions. Below, we present initial results concerning the distribution of energy in the case of symmetric quantum graphs (this means that the Schrödinger operators on different edges have the same structure). For general local self-adjoint boundary conditions, we describe the process of onestep scattering of the localized solutions and obtain a simple general result of the distribution of energy. Some special cases and specific examples are discussed.

Zeta-Regularized Schr¨odinger Equation and the Analytic Extension of the Uncertainty Principle

AKTAŞ, BORA

Abstract The standard Schrödinger equation, founded upon the second-order Laplace operator, confines quantum evolution to purely geometric curvature. This work introduces a generalized formulation in which the spatial operator is analytically extended by odd Riemann zeta values—ζ(3),ζ(5),ζ(7),…\zeta(3), \zeta(5), \zeta(7), \ldotsζ(3),ζ(5),ζ(7),…—yielding what we term the zeta-regularized Schrödinger equation. In this framework, the Laplacian hierarchy is weighted by coefficients determined by discrete cyclic symmetries (Cn)(C_{n})(Cn), resulting in a spectrum of higher-order phase-curvature operators that encode analytic corrections to the quantum speed limit and uncertainty principle. The formulation implies that measurable phase gradients, multi-layered energy spectra, and nonlocal probability currents can emerge from the analytic structure of the wave operator itself. Physically, this provides a direct link between quantum interferometric observables and the arithmetic hierarchy of the Riemann zeta function, suggesting that fundamental uncertainty bounds may possess an analytic, rather than merely geometric, origin.
