Fermionization and Hubbard Models

Abstract

We introduce a transformation which allows the fermionization of operators of any onedimensional spin-chain. This fermionization procedure is independent of any eventual integrable structure and is compatible with it. We illustrate this method on various integrable and non-integrable chains, and deduce some general results. In particular, we fermionize XXC spin-chains and study their symmetries. Fermionic realizations of certain Lie algebras and superalgebras appear naturally as symmetries of some models. We also fermionize recently obtained Hubbard models, and obtain for the first time multispecies analogues of the Hubbard model, in their fermionic form. We comment on the conflict between symmetry enhancement and integrability of these models. Finally, the fermionic versions of the non integrable spin-1 and spin- 3 2

Non-additive fusion, Hubbard models and non-locality

Z. Maassarani

Within the framework of quantum groups and additive R -matrices, the fusion procedure allows one to construct higher-dimensional solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. These solutions lead to integrable one-dimensional spin-chain Hamiltonians. Here fusion is shown to generalize naturally to non-additive R -matrices, which therefore do not have a quantum group symmetry. This method is then applied to the generalized Hubbard models. Although the resulting integrable models are not as simple as the starting ones, the general structure is that of two spin-( s × s ´) sl (2) models coupled at the free-fermion point. An important issue is the probable lack of regular points which give local Hamiltonians. This problem is related to the existence of second-order zeros in the unitarity equation, and arises for the XX models of higher spins, the building blocks of the Hubbard models. A possible connection between some Lax operators L and R -matrices is noted.

New integrable 1D models of superconductivity

Marius de Leeuw, Anton Pribytok, Ana L. Retore +1 more

Abstract In this paper we find new integrable one-dimensional lattice models of electrons. We describe all such nearest-neighbour integrable models with s u ( 2 ) × s u ( 2 ) symmetry by classifying solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation following the procedure first introduced in [1]. We find 12 R-matrices of difference form, some of which can be related to known models such as the XXX spin chain and the free Hubbard model, and some are new models. In addition, integrable generalizations of the Hubbard model are found by keeping the kinetic term of the Hamiltonian and adding all terms which preserve fermion number. We find that most of the new models cannot be diagonalized using the standard nested Bethe Ansatz.

The Yangian symmetry of the Hubbard model

Fabian H. L. Eßler, Holger Frahm, Frank Göhmann +2 more

In this chapter we will reveal another piece of the algebraic structure of the Hubbard model. As was first observed by Uglov and Korepin [462], the Hubbard Hamiltonian on the infinite line is invariant under the action of the direct sum of two so-called Yangian quantum groups, extending the rotational and the η-pairing su(2) symmetries we encountered earlier. Following [172] we shall address the issue in a more general context. We present two pairs of fermionic representations of the Y(su(2)) Yangian quantum group which commute with the trigonometric [162] and hyperbolic [40, 41] versions of a Hubbard Hamiltonian with non-nearest-neighbour hopping. In both cases the two representations are also mutually commuting, hence can be combined into a representation of Y(su(2))⊕Y(su(2)). The generators of the Yangian symmetry of the ordinary Hubbard model (with nearest-neighbour hopping) and of a number of other interesting models like the Haldane-Shastry spin-chain [194, 394] are obtained as special cases of our general result. Introduction Quantum groups were introduced by Drinfeld [107, 109]. His original intention was to put what we called the Yang-Baxter algebra into the mathematically more conventional context of Hopf algebras. The Yangians are special quantum groups. Their representation theory [80, 81] is intimately related to the classification of integrable quantum systems with rational R -matrices.

Spin chains and Yangians

W.L.N. Stronks

In this thesis we theoretically investigate the close relation between spin chains and Yangians. First, we investigate the Haldane-Shastry model, which symmetry algebra is a representation of the Yangian. We show this in full detail for the spin-1/2 model. We also give an argument why a spin-1 chain with Yangian symmetry cannot exist. \nAfter that, we turn to integrable spin chains which are constructed using the quantum inverse scattering method. Using this method, an integrable spin chain can be constructed from each so called R-matrix, which is a solution of the Yang-Baxter equation. Our main result is the construction of an R-matrix that is invariant under the adjoint representation of SU(n), which is found using an intertwining operator for the corresponding Yangian representation. The integrable\nspin chain that corresponds to this R-matrix is non-Hermitian, making its physical interpretation unclear. These results have been published recently as a preprint under arXiv:1606.02516. \nFinally, integrable spin chains with defects are studied. We present the Hamiltonian for the Heisenberg model and the Babujian-Takhtajan model with defects, such that these models keep there integrability while staying Lie algebra invariant.

Hubbard Models as Fusion Products of Free Fermions

Z. Maassarani

A class of recently introduced su (n) "free-fermion" models has recently been used to construct generalized Hubbard models. I derive an algebra defining the "free-fermion" models and give new classes of solutions. I then introduce a conjugation matrix and give a new and simple proof of the corresponding decorated Yang–Baxter equation. This provides the algebraic tools required to couple in an integrable way two copies of free-fermion models. Complete integrability of the resulting Hubbard-like models is shown by exhibiting their L and R matrices. Local symmetries of the models are discussed. The diagonalization of the free-fermion models is carried out using the algebraic Bethe Ansatz.

Fermionic representations of integrable lattice systems

Gohmann, F, Murakami, S, 村上修一 +1 more

We develop a general scheme for the use of Fermi operators within the framework of integrable systems. This enables us to read off a fermionic Hamiltonian from a given solution of the Yang-Baxter equation and to express the corresponding L-matrix and the generators of symmetries in terms of Fermi operators. We illustrate our approach through a number of examples. Our main example is the algebraic Bethe ansatz solution of the Hubbard model in the infinite coupling limit.
