RATE OF CONVERGENCE TOWARDS SEMI-RELATIVISTIC HARTREE DYNAMICS

Abstract

We consider the semi-relativistic system of N gravitating Bosons with gravitation constant G. The time evolution of the system is described by the relativistic dispersion law, and we assume the mean-field scaling of the interaction where N → ∞ and G → 0 while GN = λ fixed. In the super-critical regime of large λ, we introduce the regularized interaction where the cutoff vanishes as N → ∞. We show that the difference between the many-body semi-relativistic Schrödinger dynamics and the corresponding semi-relativistic Hartree dynamics is at most of order N −1 for all λ, i.e., the result covers the sub-critical regime and the super-critical regime. The N dependence of the bound is optimal.

Rate of convergence toward Hartree dynamics with singular interaction potential

Li Chen, Ji Oon Lee, Jinyeop Lee

We consider a system of N-bosons with a two-body interaction potential V∈L2(R3)+L∞(R3), possibly more singular than the Coulomb interaction. We show that, with H1(R3) initial data, the difference between the many-body Schrödinger evolution in the mean-field regime and the corresponding Hartree dynamics is of order 1/N, for any fixed time. The N-dependence of the bound is optimal.

Effective Dynamics of Extended Fermi Gases in the High-Density Regime

Luca Fresta, Marcello Porta, Benjamin Schlein

We study the quantum evolution of many-body Fermi gases in three dimensions, in arbitrarily large domains. We consider both particles with non-relativistic and with relativistic dispersion. We focus on the high-density regime, in the semiclassical scaling, and we consider a class of initial data describing zero-temperature states. In the non-relativistic case we prove that, as the density goes to infinity, the many-body evolution of the reduced one-particle density matrix converges to the solution of the time-dependent Hartree equation, for short macroscopic times. In the case of relativistic dispersion, we show convergence of the many-body evolution to the relativistic Hartree equation for all macroscopic times. With respect to previous work, the rate of convergence does not depend on the total number of particles, but only on the density: in particular, our result allows us to study the quantum dynamics of extensive many-body Fermi gases.

Hartree-Fock dynamics for weakly interacting fermions

Niels Benedikter, Marcello Porta, Benjamin Schlein

We review recent results concerning the evolution of fermionic systems. We are interested in the mean field regime, where particles experience many weak collisions. For fermions, the mean field regime is naturally linked with a semiclassical limit. Assuming some regularity of the interaction potential we show that the many body evolution of initial states close to Slater determinants exhibiting the appropriate semiclassical structure can be approximated by the Hartree-Fock equation. Our method provides precise bounds on the rate of the convergence.

3 Mean-field Evolution of Fermionic Systems

Niels Benedikter, Marcello Porta, Benjamin Schlein

The mean field limit for systems of many fermions is naturally coupled with a semiclassical limit. This makes the analysis of the mean field regime much more involved, compared with bosonic systems. In this paper, we study the dynamics of initial data close to a Slater determinant, whose reduced one-particle density is an orthogonal projection ωN with the appropriate semiclassical structure. Assuming some regularity of the interaction potential, we show that the evolution of such an initial data remains close to a Slater determinant, with reduced one-particle density given by the solution of the Hartree-Fock equation with initial data ωN. Our result holds for all (semiclassical) times, and gives effective bounds on the rate of the convergence towards the Hartree-Fock dynamics. 1

Mean-field dynamics of fermions with relativistic dispersion

Niels Benedikter, Marcello Porta, Benjamin Schlein

We extend the derivation of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock equation recently obtained by Benedikter et al. [“Mean-field evolution of fermionic systems,” Commun. Math. Phys. (to be published)] to fermions with a relativistic dispersion law. The main new ingredient is the propagation of semiclassical commutator bounds along the pseudo-relativistic Hartree-Fock evolution.

A New Method and a New Scaling for Deriving Fermionic Mean-Field Dynamics

Sören Petrat, Peter Pickl

We introduce a new method for deriving the time-dependent Hartree or Hartree-Fock equations as an effective mean-field dynamics from the microscopic Schrödinger equation for fermionic many-particle systems in quantum mechanics. The method is an adaption of the method used in Pickl (Lett. Math. Phys. 97 (2) 151–164 2011 ) for bosonic systems to fermionic systems. It is based on a Gronwall type estimate for a suitable measure of distance between the microscopic solution and an antisymmetrized product state. We use this method to treat a new mean-field limit for fermions with long-range interactions in a large volume. Some of our results hold for singular attractive or repulsive interactions. We can also treat Coulomb interaction assuming either a mild singularity cutoff or certain regularity conditions on the solutions to the Hartree(-Fock) equations. In the considered limit, the kinetic and interaction energy are of the same order, while the average force is subleading. For some interactions, we prove that the Hartree(-Fock) dynamics is a more accurate approximation than a simpler dynamics that one would expect from the subleading force. With our method we also treat the mean-field limit coupled to a semiclassical limit, which was discussed in the literature before, and we recover some of the previous results. All results hold for initial data close (but not necessarily equal) to antisymmetrized product states and we always provide explicit rates of convergence.
