Quantum Master Equation and Filter for Systems Driven by Fields in a Single Photon State

Abstract

Abstract — The aim of this paper is to determine quantum master and filter equations for systems coupled to continuous-mode single photon fields. The system and field are de-scribed using a quantum stochastic unitary model, where the continuous-mode single photon state for the field is determined by a wavepacket pulse shape. The master equation is derived from this model and is given in terms of a system of coupled equations. The output field carries information about the system from the scattered photon, and is continuously monitored. The quantum filter is determined with the aid of an embedding of the system into a larger system, and is given by a system of coupled stochastic differential equations. An example is provided to illustrate the main results. I.

Quantum Filtering Equations for a System Driven by Nonclassical Fields

Anita Magdalena Dąbrowska

Using Gardiner and Collet’s input-output model and the concept of cascade system, we determine the filtering equation for a quantum system driven by light in some specific nonclassical states. The quantum system and electromagnetic field are described by making use of quantum stochastic unitary evolution. We consider two examples of the nonclassical states of field: a combination of vacuum and single photon states and a mixture of two coherent states. The stochastic evolution conditioned on the results of the photon counting and quadrature measurements is described.

Fault tolerant filtering and fault detection for quantum systems driven by fields in single photon states

Qing Gao, Daoyi Dong, Ian R. Petersen +1 more

The purpose of this paper is to solve the fault tolerant filtering and fault detection problem for a class of open quantum systems driven by a continuous-mode bosonic input field in single photon states when the systems are subject to stochastic faults. Optimal estimates of both the system observables and the fault process are simultaneously calculated and characterized by a set of coupled recursive quantum stochastic differential equations.

Quantum filtering for multiple measurements driven by two single-photon states

Zhiyuan Dong, Guofeng Zhang, Nina H. Amini

In this paper, the problem of quantum filtering with two homodyne detection measurements for a two-level system has been considered. The quantum system is driven by two input light field channels, each of which contains a single photon. A quantum filter based on multiple measurements is designed; both the master equations and stochastic master equations are derived. In addition, numerical simulations for master equations with various pulse shape parameters are also compared.

State Estimation Of a Quantum Cavity Driven by single-photon

Abolghasem Daeichian

The cavity is a fundamental ingredient of quantum optical systems. This paper concerns the behavior of a quantum cavity driven by non-classical field in single-photon state. To this end, the number operator has been opted to reveal the number of photons inside the cavity. Then, the quantum filtering equations have been employed to derive a stochastic master equation for the cavity which is driven by single-photon and is observed by either Homodyne or photon-counting detector. Finally, the state of the cavity has been estimated by the derived equations, and the results have been compared with the conventional master equation.

Control of continuous-mode single-photon states: a review

Guofeng Zhang

In this survey, we first introduce quantum fields and open quantum systems, then we present continuous-mode single-photon states and discuss discrete measurements of a single-photon field. After that, we introduce linear quantum systems and show how a linear quantum system responds to a single-photon input. Then we investigate how a coherent feedback network can be used to manipulate the temporal pulse shape of a single-photon state. Afterwards, we present single-photon filter and master equations. Finally, we discuss the generation of Schrödinger cat states by means of photon addition and subtraction

Quantum trajectories for a class of continuous matrix product input states

John Edward Gough, M. R. James, Hendra I. Nurdin

We introduce a new class of continuous matrix product (CMP) states and establish the stochastic master equations (quantum filters) for an arbitrary quantum system probed by a bosonic input field in this class of states. We show that this class of CMP states arise naturally as outputs of a Markovian model, and that input fields in these states lead to master and filtering (quantum trajectory) equations which are matrix-valued. Furthermore, it is shown that this class of CMP states include the (continuous-mode) single photon and time-ordered multi-photon states.
