Quantum Filtering Equations for a System Driven by Nonclassical Fields

Abstract

Using Gardiner and Collet’s input-output model and the concept of cascade system, we determine the filtering equation for a quantum system driven by light in some specific nonclassical states. The quantum system and electromagnetic field are described by making use of quantum stochastic unitary evolution. We consider two examples of the nonclassical states of field: a combination of vacuum and single photon states and a mixture of two coherent states. The stochastic evolution conditioned on the results of the photon counting and quadrature measurements is described.

Quantum filtering for systems driven by fields in single-photon states or superposition of coherent states

We derive the stochastic master equations, that is to say, quantum filters, and master equations for an arbitrary quantum system probed by a continuous-mode bosonic input field in two types of nonclassical states. Specifically, we consider the cases where the state of the input field is a superposition or combination of (1) a continuous-mode, single-photon wave packet and vacuum, and (2) any continuous-mode coherent states.

Quantum master equation and filter for systems driven by fields in a single photon state

John E. Gough, M. R. James, Hendra I. Nurdin

The aim of this paper is to determine quantum master and filter equations for systems coupled to continuous-mode single photon fields. The system and field are described using a quantum stochastic unitary model, where the continuous-mode single photon state for the field is determined by a wavepacket pulse shape. The master equation is derived from this model and is given in terms of a system of coupled equations. The output field carries information about the system from the scattered photon, and is continuously monitored. The quantum filter is determined with the aid of an embedding of the system into a larger system, and is given by a system of coupled stochastic differential equations. An example is provided to illustrate the main results.

Quantum filtering for multiple measurements driven by fields in single-photon states

Zhiyuan Dong, Guofeng Zhang, Nina H. Amini

In this paper, we derive the stochastic master equations for quantum systems driven by a single-photon input state which is contaminated by quantum vacuum noise. To improve estimation performance, quantum filters based on multiple-channel measurements are designed. Two cases, namely diffusive plus Poissonian measurements and two diffusive measurements, are considered.

Generating nonclassical quantum input field states with modulating filters

John Edward Gough, Guofeng Zhang

We give explicit constructions of quantum dynamical filters which generate nonclassical states (coherent states, cat states, shaped single and multi-photon states) of quantum optical fields as inputs to general quantum Markov systems. The filters will be quantum harmonic oscillators damped by the input fields, and we exploit the fact that the cascaded filter and system will have a Lindbladian that is naturally Wick-ordered in the filter modes. In particular the initialization of the modulating filter will determine the signal state generated.
