Quantum noise and mixedness of a pumped dissipative non-linear oscillator

Abstract

Evolutions of quantum noise, characterized by quadrature squeezing parameter and Fano factor, and of mixedness, quantified by quantum von Neumann and linear entropies, of a pumped dissipative non-linear oscillator are studied. The model can describe a signal mode interacting with a thermal reservoir in a parametrically pumped cavity with a Kerr non-linearity. It is discussed that the initial pure states, including coherent states, Fock states, and finite superpositions of coherent states evolve into the same steady mixed state as verified by the quantum relative entropy and the Bures metric. It is shown analytically and verified numerically that the steady state can be well approximated by a nonclassical Gaussian state exhibiting quadrature squeezing and sub-Poissonian statistics for the cold thermal reservoir. It is found a rapid increase in the mixedness, especially for the initial Fock states and superpositions of coherent states, during a very short time interval, and then for longer evolution times a decrease in the mixedness to the same, for all the initial states, and relatively low value of the nonclassical Gaussian state.

EVOLUTION OF FOCK STATES IN THREE MIXED HARMONIC OSCILLATORS: QUANTUM STATISTICS

Faisal A. A. El-Orany, Jan Peřina, M. Sebawe Abdalla

In this communication we investigate the quantum statistics of three harmonic oscillators mutually interacting with each other considering the modes are initially in Fock states. After solving the equations of motion, the squeezing phenomenon, sub-Poissonian statistics and quasiprobability functions are discussed. We demonstrate that the interaction is able to produce squeezing of different types. We show also that certain types of Fock states can evolve in this interaction into thermal state and squeezed thermal state governed by the interaction parameters.

Multi Quanta Relaxation and Nonclassicality of Nonlinear Oscillators

Aurora Voje

The focus of the study is the free quantum evolution of Duffing oscillators which are nonlinearly coupled to bosonic environments. The work evolves from a particular system of an undamped, nonlinear graphene resonator mode to a more generalized framework of oscillator modes interacting with two different configurations of bosonic environments. In a model with no dissipation, the nonlinear Duffing oscillator allows an initial coherent state to evolve into a macroscopic superposition state, a Schrödinger Cat state. By further subjecting a Duffing mode to nonlinear damping, the parity conservation due to the two-quanta system-bath exchange, brings the system to a nonclassical steady state - an equilibrium state very much different from the ground state. The quantum features of this state are analysed for temperatures above zero and in a more realistic scenario where the interplay of linear and nonlinear decay is taken into account. The scope of the study is then extended to bipartite systems of nonlinear interacting oscillators, each nonlinearly coupled to a bosonic environment. The generation of entanglement in initially separable states and entanglement's asymptotic behaviour are investigated. One of the outcomes is the Duffing nonlinearity not affecting the entanglement asymptote. Therefore, finally a bipartite system of harmonic oscillators, with nonlinear system-bath coupling is initiated with entangled, squeezed states, and the asymptotic behaviour is evaluated in the parameter space of temperature, squeezing and dissipation rate. This is done for common and individual reservoir configurations, and either zero or non-zero inter-mode coupling.

Interaction of squeezed light with a Kerr medium

Arup Banerjee

The author considers interaction of squeezed light with a non-linear Kerr medium modelled as an anharmonic oscillator. Evolution of quantum fluctuations in the field amplitude and the first-order coherence function have been studied for both the sub-Poissonian and super-Poissonian statistics. Further, the author has also investigated the effect of the squeezing parameter of the initial state. The results for the first-order coherence function are obtained analytically.

Quantum statistics of nonclassical radiation in dissipative forward four-wave mixing. II. Coupled third-order nonlinear dissipative oscillators

V. Peinová, M. Kárská

The statistical properties of nonlinear oscillators modeling dissipative forward four-wave mixing are investigated, adopting the Fokker-Planck equation approach. The photon statistics are shown to be insensitive to the nonlinearities and are formulated in terms of the superposition of coherent and chaotic fields. The only approximation in describing the squeezing properties consists in the way of including thermal noise. The effect of the initial coherent amplitudes, that of the interplay of the coupling constants, and that of the reservoir on the squeezing properties are studied. An interesting connection between the revivals of coherent amplitudes and squeezing is pointed out.

Anti-Jaynes-Cummings interaction of a two-level atom with squeezed light: A comparison with the Jaynes-Cummings interaction

Christopher Mayero, Joseph Akeyo Omolo

We considered the anti-Jaynes-Cummings (AJC) interaction of a two-level atom in an initial ground state interacting with a field mode in an initial squeezed coherent state at arbitrary values of squeeze parameter r and provided the Jaynes-Cummings (JC) interaction as a comparison. We analysed the degree of entanglement (DEM) measured by the von Neumann entropy and the nature of the field quantified by the Mandel Q parameter in relation to the atomic population inversion during the AJC interaction and separately the corresponding JC interaction. We noted in our examples that at r>1.4, photon statistics evolved to super-Poissonian from sub-Poissonian during the respective AJC, JC interactions. Further, for high values of r, the form of the time evolution of atomic population inversion depicted enhanced ringing revivals at the collapse region in comparison to the case of an initial coherent state. What is more, at higher values of r the time evolution of DEM showed more rapid oscillations and recorded higher values, concurrently, an increase in the degree of mixedness.
