Critical properties of an antiferromagnetic decorated Ising model on a square lattice

Abstract

The authors have investigated the static critical behavior of a two-dimensional decorated Ising model on a square lattice in an external magnetic field, using computational physics methods. Particular consideration has been given to a special case when antiferromagnetic exchange interaction is observed only between decorated spins and spins located at lattice sites. It has been shown that at an external magnetic field of H0 = 4, the model experiences partial degeneracy in the ground state. At field values close to H0 = 4, heat-capacity splitting is observed.

Phase Diagram and the Ground State of the Decorated Ising Model on a Triangular Lattice with Ferromagnetic Interaction between the First Nearest Neighbors and Antiferromagnetic Interaction between the Next Nearest Neighbors

Vadim A. Mutailamov, Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev

Abstract The static critical behavior of a 2D decorated ferromagnetic Ising model on a triangular lattice has been investigated by the methods of computational physics. For nodal spins, ferromagnetic exchange interaction between the first nearest neighbors and antiferromagnetic interaction between the next nearest neighbors have been taken into account. Exchange interaction Jd between nodal and decorated spins varies within [–3.0, 3.0]. For different values of Jd, the ground state of the model has been determined, critical temperatures have been calculated, and a phase diagram has been constructed. It has been shown that the magnitude of exchange interaction with decorated spins influences the type of phase transition to the paramagnetic state.

Phase Diagram and Ground State of a Decorated Ising Model on a Cubic Lattice

Vadim A. Mutailamov, Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev

Abstract The static critical behavior of a three-dimensional decorated Ising model on a cubic lattice is investigated by the methods of computational physics. The case is considered when the exchange interaction Jn = –1 between nodal spins is antiferromagnetic and the interaction Jd between nodal spins and decorated spins varies within [–3.0; 3.0]. For various values of Jd, the ground state of the model is determined, the critical temperatures and critical exponents are calculated, and the phase diagram is constructed. It is shown that, for any ratios of exchange interactions in the model, a second-order phase transition is observed from an ordered to a paramagnetic state, and the critical exponents are close to the values for the standard Ising model.

Phase diagram and critical behavior of the antiferromagnetic Ising model in an external field

Bruno Jeferson Lourenço, Ronald Dickman

Abstract We study the critical properties of the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Ising model in an external field on the square lattice. Using tomographic entropic sampling, a flat-histogram simulation method, we estimate the number of configurations, , and related microcanonical averages in the energy-magnetization space, for system sizes L = 10–30. The critical line and exponents are calculated using finite-size scaling analysis in the temperature-external field plane. With these estimates in hand, we perform detailed studies of critical behavior using Metropolis sampling of larger systems ( ). These results are compared to several approximate theoretical methods. Our estimates of critical exponents and Binder’s reduced fourth cumulant along the critical line are in very good agreement with their respective literature values for the two-dimensional Ising universality class. We verify as well that the specific heat scales along the critical line, as expected for an Ising-like critical point.

Ising Antiferromagnet with Nearest-Neighbor and Next-Nearest-Neighbor Interactions on a Square Lattice

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Рамазанов Магомедшейх Курбанович, М. К. Бадиев

The critical properties of two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model in square lattice are investigated using the replica Monte-Carlo method with account of interactions of second nearest neighbors. The diagram of critical temperature dependence on an interaction value of second nearest neighbors is plotted. Static critical exponents of the heat capacity α, susceptibility γ, magnetization β, and correlation radius ν are calculated for this model using the finite-size scaling theory.

Decorated Ising Chain in a Magnetic Field

E. S. Tsuvarev, Felix A. Kassan-Ogly

Abstract The Kramers–Wannier transfer matrix method is generalized to an arbitrary decoration number of the Ising chain. An exact analytical expression is obtained for the largest eigenvalue of the transfer matrix of a decorated Ising chain in the presence of an external magnetic field. Frustration points and the values of frustration magnetic fields are found that depend on the magnitudes and signs of exchange interactions. Exact expressions are obtained for zero-temperature entropies and zero-temperature magnetizations of the model under consideration. Magnetic phase diagrams of the ground state of the system are constructed for decoration values of d = 1 and d = 2, including those in the absence of a magnetic field. A comparison is made with a decorated square lattice not only in the absence but also in the presence of a magnetic field.

Two-Dimensional Ising Model in an Annealed Random Field

Claudette E. Cordeiro, L.L. Gonçalves

The critical behavior of the two-dimensional Ising model (square lattice, exchange constant J) in an uniform field, and in an annealed random field is considered. The random field is generated by decorating the horizontal and vertical bonds of the lattice, and it satisfies an arbitrary distribution which is imposed by introducing a pseudo-chemical potential. By decimating the decorating variables the model can be mapped onto a homogeneous Ising model with effective exchange constant J′ and effective external field h′, dependent on the temperature. These parameters, which satisfy a set of coupled equations, depend on the spin average and nearest-neighbor two-spin correlation, and are obtained numerically. For the symmetric field distribution [Formula: see text] the mapping of the critical frontier on the (K′=βJ′,H′=βh′) plane onto the (K=β J,H=βh) plane is determined and, as in the model introduced by Essam and Place, there is a region on the (K, H) plane which cannot be reached from any real values of (K′, H′). The critical exponents are determined numerically, and it is shown that they do not satisfy renormalization relations obtained for their model.
