Abstract

We investigate the Floquet dynamics of a cavity-spinor Bose-Einstein condensate coupling system. Due to cavity field nonlinearity, the spin oscillation can be amplified to all orders of parametric resonance.

Nonlinear Floquet dynamics of spinor condensates in an optical cavity: Cavity-amplified parametric resonance

Zheng-Chun Li, Qi-Hui Jiang, Zhihao Lan +2 more

We investigate the Floquet dynamics of a cavity-spinor Bose-Einstein condensate coupling system via periodic modulation of the cavity pump laser. Parametric resonances are predicted, and we show that due to cavity feedback-induced nonlinearity, the spin oscillation can be amplified to all orders of resonance, thus facilitating its detection. Real-time observation of Floquet dynamics via cavity output is also discussed.

Spin dynamics and domain formation of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical cavity

Lu Zhou, Han Pu, Hong Yuan Ling +2 more

We consider a ferromagnetic spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) dispersively coupled to a unidirectional ring cavity. We show that the ability of the cavity to modify, in a highly nonlinear fashion, matter-wave phase shifts adds an additional dimension to the study of spinor condensates. In addition to demonstrating strong matter-wave bistability as in our earlier publication [L. Zhou et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 160403 (2009)], we show that the interplay between atomic and cavity fields can greatly enrich both the physics of critical slowing down in spin-mixing dynamics and the physics of spin-domain formation in spinor condensates.

Dynamical coupling between a Bose–Einstein condensate and a cavity optical lattice

Stephan Ritter, Ferdinand Brennecke, Kristian Baumann +3 more

A Bose–Einstein condensate is dispersively coupled to a single mode of an ultra-high finesse optical cavity. The system is governed by strong interactions between the atomic motion and the light field even at the level of single quanta. While coherently pumping the cavity mode the condensate is subject to the cavity optical lattice potential whose depth depends nonlinearly on the atomic density distribution. We observe optical bistability already below the single photon level and strong back-action dynamics which tunes the coupled system periodically out of resonance.

We present a tutorial review on the topics related to current development in cavity optomechanics, with special emphasis on cavity optomechanical effects with ultracold gases, Bose-Einstein condensates, and spinor Bose-Einstein condensates. Topics including the quantum model and nonlinearity of the cavity optomechanics, the principles of optomechanical cooling, radiation-pressure-induced nonlinear states, the chaotic dynamics in a condensate-mirror-hybrid optomechanical setup, and the spin-mixing dynamics controlled by optical cavities are covered.

Nonlinear dynamics of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential

Özgür Esat Müstecaplıoğlu, Mei Zhang, Li You

We examine the nonlinear dynamical behavior of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential. Considering a condensate with large number of atoms, such that it can be described using the mean field theory, we separate the spinor dynamics from the spatial dynamics under the single-mode approximation. We limit ourselves to certain initial conditions under which the spatial mode is frozen so that we can focus on the spinor dynamics only. Identifying collective spin variables of our system, we derive the corresponding nonlinear equations of motion for them. Employing standard stability analysis, we find and characterize fixed points of the system. For a wide range of physical parameters such as tunneling strength and non-linear interactions, as well as for various initial preparations of the system, we identify qualitatively different dynamical regimes possible in the system. In particular, complete and incomplete oscillations of spin variables between quantum wells are found. We also show that by bringing some fixed points close to each other in the phase space of the system, it is possible to induce amplitude modulation to those otherwise regular tunneling oscillations.

Multistability in an optomechanical system with a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate

Ying Dong, Jinwu Ye, Han Pu

We investigate a system consisting of a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate interacting dispersively with a Fabry-Perot optical cavity where the two components of the condensate are resonantly coupled to each other by another classical field. The key feature of this system is that the atomic motional degrees of freedom and the internal pseudospin degrees of freedom are coupled to the cavity field simultaneously, hence an effective spin-orbital coupling within the condensate is induced by the cavity. The interplay among the atomic center-of-mass motion, the atomic collective spin, and the cavity field leads to a strong nonlinearity, resulting in multistable behavior in both matter wave and light wave at the few-photon level.
