Abstract

Abstract We propose a scheme to realize the active controlled dual-band unidirectional reflectionlessness at exceptional points by classical driving field in a non-Hermitian quantum system that consists of two Λ-type three-level quantum dots side coupled to a plasmonic waveguide. We demonstrate that the dual-band unidirectional reflectionlessness can be controlled by appropriately tuning classical driving field, phase shift between two quantum dots, dissipations of two quantum dots, and quantum dot-waveguide coupling strengths. Furthermore, the dual-band unidirectional reflectionlessness spectra with quality factors of ∼375.40 and ∼402.59 can be obtained in the forward and backward directions, respectively.

Controlled unidirectional reflectionlessness by coupling strength in a non-Hermitian waveguide quantum electrodynamics system

De-Xiu Qiu, Fude Li, K. Xue +1 more

Unidirectional reflectionlessness is investigated in a waveguide quantum electrodynamics system that consists of a cavity and a [Formula: see text]-type three-level quantum dot coupled to a one-dimensional plasmonic waveguide. Analytical expressions of transmission and reflection coefficients are derived and discussed for both resonant and off-resonant couplings. By appropriately modulating the coupling strength, phase shift and Rabi frequency, unidirectional reflectionlessness is observed at the exceptional points (EPs). And unidirectional coherent perfect absorption is exhibited at the vicinity of the EP. These results might find applications in designing quantum devices of photons, such as optical switches and single-photon transistors.

A single plasmon router based on the V-type three-level quantum dot sandwiched between two plasmonic waveguides

Myong-Chol Ko, Nam-Chol Kim, Hyok Choe

Abstract A single photon router with a desired high routing rate is of great importance for quantum networks. Recently, coupling between channeled plasmons and quantum emitters have been widely used to explore the routing feasibility in hybrid systems. As a capable alternative, we suggested a scheme of a single plasmon router using a V-type three-level quantum dot (QD) sandwiched between two plasmonic waveguides. We theoretically investigated the transmission and transfer rates of single plasmons in the complex system via the real-space approach. Our calculations show that the single plasmons from the incident route could be redirected by controlling such parameters as the intensity of the classical field, the detunings and the couplings between the QD and the plasmonic waveguides. Our proposed scheme could be used not only for the design of a single plasmon router but also for the design of quantum switches and quantum couplers in quantum photonic integrated circuits.

Unidirectional Reflectionlessness and Transmissionlessness in Indirectly Coupled Whispering‐Gallery Mode Resonators

Gang Li, Ying Qiao Zhang, Xing Ri Jin

Abstract The reflection and transmission characteristics of a system composed of two whispering‐gallery mode (WGM) resonators are explored. Each resonator contains a Zeeman split quantum dot and side‐couples to an optical fiber. The results indicate that the unidirectional reflectionlessness and transmissionlessness can be achieved by adjusting the coupling strength between the resonators and the optical fiber, as well as the transition rate between the counter‐propagating modes within the WGM resonators. Besides, a one‐to‐one correspondence is set up between the resonance frequencies of quantum dots' energy levels and the positions of reflectionlessness (transmissionlessness) peaks when phase shift between two WGM resonators is . This research provides the valuable insights for the development of quantum optical devices such as isolators, circulators, and routers.

Coherent controlling surface plasmon transport properties in Ag nanowire by classic optical field

Mu-Tian Cheng

Coherent controlling surface plasmon transport in metal nanowire coupled to quantum dot is investigated theoretically by real-space method. In the calculations, the dispersion relation of metal nanowire is supposed to be linear and the quantum dot is a cascaded three-level system. The calculations reveal that whether the surface plasmon is transmitted or reflected by turning off or on the classic field can be controlled. The surface plasmon transmission and reflection spectra can be controlled by adjusting the intensity and the circular frequency of classic optical field even the energy of surface plasmon and quantum dot is not matched. The dissipations affecting on the transport properties are also discussed.

One-sided destructive quantum interference from an exceptional-point-based metasurface

Hong Liang, Kai Ming Lau, Wai Chun Wong +3 more

We propose the concept of one-sided destructive quantum interference based on lossy metasurfaces. It corresponds to one-sided beam splitting with 50:25:0 in percentage ratio among the transmission and the two reflection efficiencies, which can be realized by a metasurface with unidirectional zero reflection (UZR) from a non-Hermitian exceptional point. When two identical photons enter both sides of the lossy metasurface, quantum interference only occurs for the single-photon output state towards one side but not the other due to UZR. Such one-sided quantum interference can be further made totally destructive. This effect along with UZR provides more degrees of freedom in quantum interference control and entangled states construction.

Asymmetric transmission through a flux-controlled non-Hermitian scattering center

Xuejing Li, X. Z. Zhang, Gang Zhang +1 more

We study the possibility of asymmetric transmission induced by a non-Hermitian scattering center embedded in a one-dimensional waveguide, motivated by the aim of realizing quantum diodes in a non-Hermitian system. It is shown that a $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric non-Hermitian scattering center always has symmetric transmission although the dynamics within the isolated center can be unidirectional, especially at its exceptional point. We propose a concrete scheme based on a flux-controlled non-Hermitian scattering center, which comprises a non-Hermitian triangular ring threaded by an Aharonov-Bohm flux. The analytical solution shows that such a complex scattering center acts as a diode at the resonant energy level of the spectral singularity, exhibiting perfect unidirectionality of the transmission. The connections between the phenomena of the asymmetric transmission and reflectionless absorption are also discussed.
