Liu Haiyang's Physics Essay Series, Part 2: The Misreading of Parallel Universes: Déjà Vu and the Precognition Illusion

Abstract This paper proposes a unified hypothesis regarding phenomena such as déjà vu, probabilistic foresight, and the "sixth sense," while responding to metaphysical intuitions about "parallel universes" and "time travel." This paper explicitly argues that there are no parallel universe branches presupposed by the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics that coexist as entities with present reality. Although higher-dimensional spacetime (e.g., compactified extra dimensions in string theory) is a legitimate geometrical construct proposed in theoretical physics to unify interactions, this paper only rejects the popular ontological presupposition that "parallel universes are entity bifurcations within higher-dimensional spacetime," not the mathematical legitimacy of the extra spatial dimensions themselves. The core position of this paper is: quantum superposition is the evolution of potentiality within a single spacetime background, not the coexistence of actualized branches. Consciousness previews all possible paths at the quantum level when facing choices; after decoherence is completed, information about the evolutionary paths is encoded into the classical degrees of freedom of the environment. This paper strictly distinguishes between the "imprints of actualized branches" (Type-A imprints) described by standard Quantum Darwinism and the "conjectured residual imprints of unactualized paths" (Type-B imprints) proposed herein. Consciousness selectively samples minimal fragments of these imprints, which are mislabeled by classical neural networks, thereby generating the illusions of "déjà vu," "probabilistic foresight," or "originating from another spacetime." This paper further points out that such residual quantum imprints are the cognitive root of human intuitions regarding parallel universes, time travel, and the sixth sense. Starting from process philosophy and the potentiality interpretation of quantum mechanics, this paper delineates its ontological stance, discusses its relationship with QBism, MWI, predictive coding, and phenomenology, and offers directional predictions. This paper honestly declares its non-decidability and the nature of its core conjecture extending beyond the standard physical framework, providing a well-founded and internally consistent philosophical hypothesis of science.
