About resonance and non-resonance stimulated transition coefficients

Michael G. Noppe

Resonance and non-resonance stimulated transition coefficients for a system with relaxation are derived. The resonance stimulated transition coefficient was used for calculation of the laser spectrum. The non-resonance stimulated transition coefficients are used for explanation of the observed many-mode spectrum of long lasers.

Time-Resolved Resonance Fluorescence and Resonance Raman Scattering

A. Szöke, E. Courtens

Light emission under near-resonant excitation by a pulsed optical field is described using a semiclassical (Bloch) model for the near-resonant transition. Adiabatic excitation of this transition leads to Raman emission, whereas nonadiabaticity gives fluorescence. The model describes quantitatively observed relaxation effects. It further predicts that such experiments can determine the power spectrum of the correlation function characterizing collisions, offering an alternative to off-resonance spectroscopy.

Polarization transfer and relaxation induced in collisions of excited alkali atoms

E. I. Dashevskaya, E. E. Nikitin

We present an approximate theory of intramultiplet mixing, relaxation, and polarization transfer in excited alkali atoms, valid for all magnitudes of the fine-structure splitting. The theory is developed as the generalization of the previously postulated theory of fine-structure mixing induced in adiabatic and quasiresonant collisions. In the adiabatic region, the theory predicts a change in the sign of the coefficient for polarization transfer between the components j = 1/2 and,j = 3/2 of the 2P resonance doublet, as the Massey parameter for this transition changes.
