Abstract

Abstract The orbital angular momentum state (OAM) of the photon can be theoretically evaluated from minus infinity to infinity, and the different orbital angular momentum states are orthogonal to each other. Therefore, in recent years, it has attracted wide attention from the academic circle and the industry. The purpose of this paper is to study the characteristics of single photon orbital angular momentum transfer based on information processing technology and to provide Suggestions for its technical optimization. Based on the characteristics of the angular momentum state of photon orbit, this paper studies its application and related problems in information processing and transmission. In this paper, quantum multiuser communication technology is studied, and a multiuser communication scheme based on photon orbital angular momentum state is proposed. The scheme takes advantage of the orthogonality of different orbital angular momentum states of the photon and assumes that the sender and receiver share a pair of entangled orbital angular momentum states. On this basis, the spatial light modulator is used to modulate it to the entangled photon of the sender, so that the sending photon carries all the user’s information at the same time. Finally, the receiver accurately extracts the information of each sender by measuring the coincidence count and according to the specific receiving rules. Numerical simulation and experimental results show that the coincidence rate of different coding schemes is between 0 and 0.66, which proves the feasibility of the scheme.

An Orbital-angular-momentum-multiplexed Free-space Optical Communications Based on Efficient OAM States Separation Method

Yang Fa

Recently, the free space optical communication system based on orbital angular momentum( OAM) states multiplexing has become one of the hot topics in optical communications and quantum optics, because OAM states are new dimensional information carriers. An efficient orbital-angular-momentum-multiplexed free-space optical communication scheme is proposed, where the efficient orbital angular momentum states separation method is adopted. With this OAM separation method, different orbital angular momentum states can be obtained simultaneously from the superposition OAM state beam, which greatly saves time and the expensive devices for demodulating the information from the information-carrying OAM states. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce time and the number of the devices at the receiver for the information retrieving. The bit error rate of the system can be less than 10- 4when the signal-to-noise ratio of the system is greater than 23 dB. Therefore, this OAMmultiplexed free-space optical communications scheme is proved to be feasible.

Quantum secure direct communication based on orbital angular momentum

Hong Lai, Liling Zhang, Yanrong Zhu

The existing quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) protocols mainly make use of the spin angular momentum and entangled photons, to realize direct transmission of confidential information. But those protocols' capacity is low, only one-bit information. On the other hand, the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of a photon can be theoretically evaluated from minus infinity to infinity, and the angular momentum states of different orbits are orthogonal to each other. Given that, in this paper, we propose a quantum secure direct communication scheme based on OAM. Specifically, taking OAM of photons as the information carrier, the data of information is segmented and high-capacity coding in quantum secure direct communication is realized through the segmentation of sector states.

Quantum communication coding based on orbital angular momentum of light

Xizheng Ke

The nondiffracting higher-order Bessel beams carry the orbital angular momentum(OAM). During free propagation, their transverse intensity profile remains nearly invariant in a range. The beam comprises the topological charge l helical phasefronts and carries an orbital angular momentum of lh per photon. The angular momentum number carried by the photon in each eigenmode is represented by l, and the eigenstates |l〉can generate multidimensional quantum entangled states.A method of optical communication is presented that encodes information in two orthogonal orbital angular momentum states based on higher-order Bessel beams. Each photon carries OAM states of information, which can increase the key generation rate of the protocol, and offer a quantum solution for increase of the optical communication distance.

Research progress of integrated quantum light sources with orbital angular momentum

Bo Chen, Jin Liu, Juntao Li +1 more

Quantum light sources are one of key devices for quantum information processing, and they are also the important foundation for applications such as in quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum simulation. Improving the capacity of quantum information coding by using the quantum light source is a major challenge in the development of quantum information technology. Photons with a helical phase front can carry a discrete, unlimited but quantized amount of orbital angular momentum (OAM). The infinite number of states with different OAMs can greatly increase the capacity of optical communication and information processing in quantum regimes. To date photons carrying OAM have mainly been generated by using bulk crystals, which limits the efficiency and the scalability of the source. With the advancement of quantum photonic technology, many significant quantum photonic devices can now be realized on integrated chips. However, creating high-dimensional OAM quantum states at a micro-nano scale is still a challenge. And the research of harnessing high-dimensional OAM mode by using integrated quantum photonic technologies is still in its infancy. Here, the authors review the recent progress and discuss the integrated quantum light sources with OAM. The authors introduce the research progress of using OAM for both single photons and entangled photons and emphasize the exciting work on pushing boundaries in high-dimensional quantum states. This may pave the way for the research and practical applications of high-dimensional quantum light sources.

Information Transferring between a Photon's Orbital Angular Momentum and Frequency

Ruifeng Liu, Pei Zhang, Hong Lin Gao +1 more

A photon's orbital angular momentum (OAM) offers a promising resource for the higher-dimensional quantum information process, which is due to the infinite values of OAM. One of the obstacles for its application is that it is difficult to transmit information encoded in OAM space in long distance quantum communication, e.g., photons with different OAMs are unsupported in optical fiber transmitting. We propose an efficient scheme to transform the information from OAM to frequency. Then the information encoded in frequency freedom can be used in fiber transmission and finally be recovered to OAM from frequency. Our scheme can be easily extended to higher-dimensional quantum information transferring between OAM and frequency.

A Large-alphabet Quantum Key Distribution Protocol Using Orbital Angular Momentum Entanglement

Sheng-Mei Zhao, Long-Yan Gong, Yong-Qiang Li +3 more

We experimentally demonstrate a quantum key distribution protocol using entangled photon pairs in orbital angular momentum (OAM). Here Alice uses a fixed phase hologram to modulate her OAM state on one photon with a spatial light modulator (SLM), while Bob uses the designed N different phase holograms for his N-based keys on the other photon with his SLM. With coincidences, Alice can fully retrieve the keys sent by Bob without reconciliation. We report the experiment results with N = 3 and OAM eigenmodes |ℓ = ±1〉, and discuss the security from the light path and typical attacks.
