Abstract

The security of classical cryptography based on computational complexity assumptions has been severely challenged with the rapid development of quantum computers and quantum algorithms. Quantum cryptography, which offers unconditional security based on some principles of quantum mechanics, has become a significant branch and hotspot in the field of modern cryptography research. In this paper, we review the research and development of several important and well-studied branches of quantum cryptography in terms of theory and experiment, including quantum key distribution, quantum secret sharing, quantum secure direct communication, quantum signature, and quantum private query. We also briefly review the research and development of some other branches which are currently in the stage of theoretical research but receive widespread concern from academia, including quantum private comparison, quantum anonymous voting, quantum secure multi-party summation, quantum sealed-bid auction, quantum public key cryptosystem, quantum key agreement, quantum dialogue, and quantum identity authentication. In addition, we discuss some open issues and future research directions for the branches referred to above.

Current Status and Future Development of Quantum Cryptographic Protocols

Xue Jun Zhang, Fei Gao, Su‐Juan Qin +1 more

Quantum computing has the capability of parallel computing and is superior to classical computing in solving some specific problems. Once a large-scale quantum computer is developed, the security of classical cryptographic algorithms and protocols, which is based on the assumption of computational complexity, will be severely challenged. Quantum cryptography is a new cryptosystem; its security is based on the principles of quantum mechanics, and can resist the attack of quantum computing. This paper focuses on the nearly 40 years development of quantum cryptographic protocols, including quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum secure direct communication, quantum secret sharing, quantum identity authentication, two-party secure computation, and quantum private query, and summarizes the problems in the process of development. The analysis shows that the quantum cryptographic protocols are in an unbalanced state: QKD is far ahead of other protocols and other protocols are difficult to achieve breakthroughs. In the future, practical quantum protocols for digital signature and two-party secure computation are core issues that needs to be addressed urgently. Therefore, research on quantum and post-quantum cryptography should be conducted synchronously, cross-over study and talent cultivation for the quantum science and cryptography disciplines should be strengthened, and the examination and evaluation mechanism of relevant basic research needs to be optimized.

Quantum Cryptography: A Brief Review of the Recent Developments and Future Perspectives

Azeem Iqbal, Muhammad Junaid Aslam, Sahar Hafiza Nayab

Quantum Cryptography is a novel approach to make the information and network world more secure. Unlike classical cryptography, quantum cryptography ensures the security of communication because it is based on the laws of Quantum Mechanics; a branch of physics that deals with the fundamental behavior of matter and their energies to the levels of subatomic particles. These particles and their intrinsic properties such as photon polarization and entanglement allow us to develop an unbreakable system of cryptographic information. Conventionally, the security has been primarily concerned with the secured distribution of secret key carried over an insecure channel. However, in Quantum Cryptographic systems the transmission of secret key is done using aforementioned laws of nature through a secured quantum channel highly susceptible to intrusion detection. Consequently, the Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), in conjunction with protocols such as BB84 protocol has emerged as an ultimate modern secured communication system. This article concentrates on briefly reviewing quantum cryptography, some recent developments and reports of its vulnerabilities.

A Survey on Various Aspects of Quantum Cryptography

Rajesh Kumar Pateriya, Dr.J.L. Rana, Anupriya Gupta

In the era of information technology the need for secure communication has become increasingly important. Cryptography is a technology for creating the core of information security we use cryptography for making data secure which is the science of information protection from unauthorized interception and tempering. Most modern cryptographic studies design cryptosystems and algorithms using mathematical concepts which are based either on factorization or on discrete logarithm problem. In recent years quantum information research has lead to the discovery of a number of remarkable new paradigms for information processing and communication. These developments include quantum cryptography schemes that offer unconditionally secure information transport guaranteed by quantum-mechanical laws, which provide protection of system security, and optimization of system efficiency and detects intrusion and wiretap. Today quantum cryptography is used in various application for transferring secure data without the fear of keys being compromised. This paper reviews the various areas where quantum  cryptography is successfully implemented, its advantages disadvantages & technical issues.

Mst Shapna Akter, Juanjose Rodriguez-Cardenas, Hossain Shahriar +2 more

With the ever-growing concern for internet security, the field of quantum cryptography emerges as a promising solution for enhancing the security of networking systems. In this paper, 20 notable papers from leading conferences and journals are reviewed and categorized based on their focus on various aspects of quantum cryptography, including key distribution, quantum bit commitment, post-quantum cryptography, and counterfactual quantum key distribution. The paper explores the motivations and challenges of employing quantum cryptography, addressing security and privacy concerns along with existing solutions. Secure key distribution, a critical component in ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of transmitted information over a network, is emphasized in the discussion. The survey examines the potential of quantum cryptography to enable secure key exchange between parties, even when faced with eavesdropping, and other applications of quantum cryptography. Additionally, the paper analyzes the methodologies, findings, and limitations of each reviewed study, pinpointing trends such as the increasing focus on practical implementation of quantum cryptography protocols and the growing interest in post-quantum cryptography research. Furthermore, the survey identifies challenges and open research questions, including the need for more efficient quantum repeater networks, improved security proofs for continuous variable quantum key distribution, and the development of quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms, showing future directions for the field of quantum cryptography.

Quantum computing and quantum cryptography are two areas of research that have the potential to transform modern computing and communication. Quantum computing promises to solve computational problems that are beyond the reach of classical computers, while quantum cryptography provides a way to secure communication channels that is immune to eavesdropping. Quantum cryptography is one of the emerging topics in the field of computer industry. This article focuses on quantum cryptography and how this technology makes a valuable contribution to an intensive defense strategy of completely secure key distribution. The scope of this article covers the weaknesses of modern digital cryptographic systems, the basic concepts of quantum cryptography, the practical implementations of this technology, and its limitations. , and finally the future direction that quantum cryptography is headed. We describe the result of an apparatus and protocol designed to perform quantum key distribution, whereby two users do not share any secret information (no private or public keys are known). previously known) initially exchanges a random quantum transmission consisting of veryweakly polarized light rays. In particular, readers can explore the following topics in depth: current cryptographic schemes (symmetric and asymmetric), the difference between quantum and classical computing, challenges of quantum computing, quantum algorithms (Shor and Grover), public key cryptographic schemes affected, symmetry affected schemes, impact on hash functions and post-quantum cryptography
