Abstract

Many computing applications are being developed and applied in almost every aspect of life and in every discipline. With increasing number of problems and complexities, there is requirement for more computational power, faster speed and better results. To overcome these computational barriers, quantum computers, which are based on principles of quantum mechanics were introduced. Faster computation is the main reason behind the evolution of quantum computers which is achieved by using quantum bits instead of bits as quantum bits store both the values 1 and 0 together in superposition. The article focuses on basics of quantum computing in brief and the underlying phenomenon behind quantum computers. Also this article exposes recent trends and the problems that are being faced in this quantum technology. The major impact of quantum machine learning is also discussed. The quantum machine learning is providing better application in this modern field. This article analyses the different research gaps and possible solutions in quantum computing. Recent days quantum computing is implemented in different applications which is also described.

Chapter 2 Quantum computing with machine learning: opportunities and challenges

Leena Arya, Yogesh Kumar Sharma, Smitha +2 more

There are a lot of different computer programs that are being made and used in almost every area of life and study. As the number and complexity of problems rise, computers need more power, faster speeds, and better results. Quantum computers, based on ideas from quantum physics, were made to get around these problems. Quantum computers were created because of the need for faster computing. This was possible using quantum bits instead of regular bits, which keep 1 and 0 in a superposition state. This chapter briefly explains quantum computing and the ideas that make it work. This piece also talks about problems and trends with quantum technology. The big effects of quantum machine learning (QML) are also talked about. In this cutting-edge field, QML is getting more attention. This chapter looks at different areas where study into quantum computing is missing and offers possible answers. Recently, details were given about many uses for quantum computing.

A Review on Applications of Quantum Computing in Machine Learning

Subrata Paul, Anirban Mitra

Computational technologies drive progress in industry, science, government, and society. While these technologies form the foundation for intelligent systems and enable scientific and business innovation, they are also the limiting factors for progress. Quantum computing promises to overcome these limitations with better and faster solutions for optimization, simulation, and machine learning problems. Quantum computing is broadly applicable to business problems in optimization, machine learning, and simulation, impacting all industries. In the last couple of years, researchers investigated if quantum computing can help to improve classical machine learning algorithms. Therefore, it is instrumental for industry to seek an active role in this emergent ecosystem. In this chapter, the authors present a brief overview on various applications of quantum computing in machine learning.

Shailja Shailja, Neha

Quantum technologies is a buzz word spinning around in different fields, from chemistry to computer science and agriculture, and also expanding into the medical field. The term combines computations and concepts of machine learning. Among these, quantum machine learning has gained prominence, particularly in healthcare applications, by using its effective data processing and classification techniques. This field uses the concepts of quantum mechanics, where qubits are used to increase the speed of calculations compared to normal computers. It also uses superposition and entanglement to enhance data processing, providing the capability to perform many calculations at once. The regular enhancement in quantum machines has led to a fierce race in academia, industry, and research. This article covers the basics of quantum computing, quantum machine learning, and their techniques, which provide valuable insights about this emerging technology.

Machine Learning in the Quantum Era

Sachin Khurana, Manisha J. Nene

Machine Learning (ML) has been extensively utilized in various scientific and engineering domains. But the inherent constraints and computational complexity that arise in classical machine learning are particularly evident when dealing with large-scale, high-dimensional datasets or when attempting to solve intricate optimisation problems. Quantum systems exhibit unconventional patterns that are typically not effectively generated by traditional systems and can also tackle high dimensional and large size datasets efficiently. Therefore, it is believed that quantum computing systems may outperform traditional computing devices in machine learning tasks. Quantum Machine Learning (QML) has emerged as a rapidly developing field that combines the concepts of quantum mechanics and machine learning to solve complex problems across various disciplines. The domain of quantum machine learning investigates the development and execution of quantum software with the potential to facilitate machine learning at a much superior pace compared to traditional computers. However, the major challenges encountered are hardware limitations, noise, and development of quantum algorithms. The objective of this paper is to provide an insight on the foundational principles, essential algorithms, various associated platforms, potential applications and challenges being faced by QML. As data continues to grow in size and complexity, together with the emergence of nonlinear and high-dimensional real-world situations, the computing benefits offered by QML have the potential to facilitate significant advancements in the fields of healthcare, finance, robotics, logistics, communication, and cyber security. This paper presents the basis for future research work related to development of quantum algorithms in the domain of machine learning.

Quantum Learning and Its Related Applications for the Future

Biswajit R. Bhowmik, T D Manjunath

Recent advances in high-performance computing have been rapid. On the contrary, experts also know that the Moore's Law prediction of the number of transistors on microchips that would double every 18 months is almost saturated. This calls for new techniques to enhance computational power. Quantum computing is a possible solution that uses quantum mechanical phenomena and employs quantum algorithms to improve performance (accuracy, speed). The emerging technology has many interesting potential applications, including quantum machine learning, quantum computational chemistry, post quantum cryptography, etc. The complexity of applications is ever-increasing. Quantum computing amalgamates various classical machine and reinforcement learning in multiple ways to address different challenges of many complex applications. The state-of-the-art reviews on existing works in the domain show that new learning methods can enhance the achieved performance by quantum computing. The chapter thus provides an overview of quantum learning, its applications, research challenges, and future trends.
