Abstract

Quantum cryptography is described as a point-to-point secure key generation technology that has emerged in recent times in providing absolute security. Researchers have started studying new innovative approaches to exploit the security of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for a large-scale communication system. A number of approaches and models for utilization of QKD for secure communication have been developed. The uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics created a new paradigm for QKD. One of the approaches for use of QKD involved network fashioned security. The main goal was point-to-point Quantum network that exploited QKD technology for end-to-end network security via high speed QKD. Other approaches and models equipped with QKD in network fashion are introduced in the literature as. A different approach that this paper deals with is using QKD in existing protocols, which are widely used on the Internet to enhance security with main objective of unconditional security. Our work is towards the analysis of the QKD in Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET).

Quantum based Cryptography for Secured Data Communication in Mobile Ad-Hoc Network

S. Sangeetha, S. Sathappan

A Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is an infrastructure-less network of mobile devices that are linked without any wire. Every mobile device in MANET moves in any direction. Security is a key problem in MANET of providing the secured communication with routing and packet forwarding process. In order to improve the security during the data communication, Quantum Key Distribution based Secured Data Communication (QKD-SDC) technique is designed in MANET. In QKD-SDC technique, quantum based cryptography used the quantum mechanics for secured data communication. Initially, Quantum based Cryptography performs Quantum Key Generation and Quantum Key distribution process. In Quantum Key Generation process, quantum key is generated and the key is shared to the receiver. With help of the quantum key, the original data gets encrypted as qubits. In Quantum Key distribution process, the qubits are sent to the receiver end through quantum communication channel along with the quantum key. At the receiver end, when the quantum key gets matched with receiver's quantum key, the qubits are decrypted to obtain the original data. When the key is not matched, the qubits get dropped. This in turn helps to improve the secured data communication in quantum communication channel. Experimental evaluation of QKD-SDC technique is carried out with the performance metrics such as data loss rate, throughput and time for secured data delivery. Experimental analysis shows that the QKD-SDC technique is able to reduce the data loss rate and also improves the throughput when compared to the state-of-the-art works.

QKD Technology For High Performance Computing And Wireless Network

S Jonisha, Sureka

: Abstract - Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a point to point secure key generation technology which provides unconditional security. To exploit the security of QKD for large scale practical communication, it must be used in a network fashion. BBN DARPA quantum network and SECOQC network of secrets are the examples of such networks. Research is also in progress for the integration of QKD with the protocols in different layers of OSI model. Integration of QKD in point-to-point protocol (PPP) OSI layer 2 and the integration of QKD with IPSEC at OSI layer-3 are the examples of such research efforts. All these steps are moving towards the utilization of QKD technology for enhancing the security of modern computing applications on the internet. This paper presents a model for the exploitation of QKD security networks in high performance distributed computing applications, such as grid computing.

Quantum cryptography assessing the security and practicality of quantum key distribution in modern communication networks

Abha Kiran Rajpoot, Dharmesh Dhabliya, V. N. Trupti +3 more

The increasing number of cyber threats and the approaching development of quantum computing demand a critical review of existing cryptographic approaches. The goal of this work is to evaluate the security and practicality of utilizing Quantum Key Distribution for secure communications. QKD utilizes the laws of quantum mechanics to provide a secure and unbreakable method for exchanging information. Protocols like BB84 are resistant to threatening attacks from both classical and quantum adversaries. The methodology utilizes simulated models and quantum communication toolkits to study critical characteristics such as key generation speed, QBER, latency and scalability. Performance of QKD is compared to that of classical schemes such as RSA-2048, ECC-256 and AES-256. Results reveal that although QKD provides unparalleled theoretical security, its deployment has notable obstacles such as intricate infrastructure, restrictions on distance and elevated latency. Our study reveals that optimizing the interplay between security and practicality in QKD deployment can yield a highly effective safeguard for next-generation communication networks.

Shruti R. S. Parmar, Naman Garg, Ankur Kumar

By leveraging the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, quantum cryptography represents a paradigm shift in secure communication by providing information-theoretic security, where any eavesdropping attempt can be intrinsically detected, and by offering resistance to computational attacks, including those posed by future quantum computers that threaten classical cryptographic schemes. To establish Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) as a significant tool in cybersecurity, this study examines the foundational principles of quantum cryptography, focusing on quantum algorithms, quantum bits, and quantum gates. We examine the fundamental QKD protocols and conduct a comparative study of prominent QKD protocols, including BB84, B92, E91, B92, SARG04, COW, Continuous Variable, Six State, Device Independent, and advanced protocols such as MDI-QKD and Twin-Field QKD, to evaluate key rate, distance, and security parameters. A systematic review of the literature has been conducted on the evolution of QKD protocols and networks, QKD integration with advanced technologies like blockchain, IoT, and machine learning, and the practical deployment of quantum communication is studied in this paper. The integration of AI and ML into QKD systems is investigated to explain future algorithm development and performance improvements. Also the function of QKD in quantum networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) is assessed. This paper further delves into the operation of quantum networks, detailing the roles of quantum relays, routers, repeaters, and Free Space Optics (FSO) in enhancing the efficiency and scalability of QKD. Assessing simulators such as SimulaQron, Qiskit, QuNetSim, and QKDNetSim, offering a perception into experimental implementation and protocol validation, resolves the difficulties in quantum-secured communication systems. At last, some security threats are discussed, including Laser damage, Trojan horse attacks, photon-number splitting, and detector blinding, for mitigation of risk strategies. Overall, this work contributes to the importance of QKD and quantum networks in shaping the future of secure wireless communication.
