Abstract

The rate of intercombination transitions for single F 2 color centers in a LiF crystal is estimated, in order of magnitude, as ΓTS ∼ 104 transitions/s using the results from the computer modeling of quantum trajectories of photoluminescence intensity of these centers. The lifetime of an F 2 center in the first triplet state is found to be equal to 6.9 ± 0.7 s.

Spectroscopic analysis and persistent photon-gated spectral hole burning in LiF:F2− color center crystal

Vladimir Fedorov, Sergey Mirov, Michael S. Ashenafi +1 more

Luminescence and absorption spectra of LiF crystals with F2− color centers (CCs) were studied in the 14–300 K temperature range. The Huang–Rhys factors measured from absorption and emission spectra were equal in magnitude and calculated to be 3.2 and 2.72 at 77 and 300 K, respectively. It was shown that below 40 K inhomogeneous broadening of the zero phonon line of the F2− CC prevails over homogeneous broadening. Inhomogeneous broadening of the zero phonon line was observed to vary from 5 to 15 cm−1 for different crystal preparations. Persistent spectral hole burning stable at room temperature was realized in LiF:F2− crystals.

Photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy on InP: Yb

J. Wagner, J. C. Windscheif, Helmut Ennen

Photoluminescence excitation measurements were performed on InP: Yb, using a tunable LiF: ${\mathrm{F}}_{2}^{+}$ colorcenter laser. The excitation spectra show that only one dominant ${\mathrm{Yb}}^{3+}$ ($4{f}^{13}$) center is responsible for the complex set of emission lines observed in the 1.0-\ensuremath{\mu}m spectral range. With the combination of the present results with data obtained by photoluminescence experiments the observed emission lines can be ordered into a level scheme with a twofold-split initial ($^{2}F_{\frac{5}{2}}$) and a threefold-split ($^{2}F_{\frac{7}{2}}$) ground state.

Modulation frequency doubling in the axially periodic dependence of the luminescence of F+3 centers in LiF crystals

Evgueni F. Martynovich, V. P. Dresvyanskiy, С. А. Зилов +3 more

A spatially periodic distribution of the luminescence intensity of F2 and F 3 + color centers is observed in LiF crystals with induced anisotropy. The period of spatially periodic modulation of the luminescence intensity generally coincides with the period of the change in the polarization state of excitation light. For F2 centers, the experimental axial spatially periodic dependence of the luminescence intensity is close to the calculated dependence obtained in the description of the absorption and radiative transitions in the centers by linear oscillators oriented along six C 2 axes of the cubic crystal. However, for F 3 + centers, the same experiment shows a spatially periodic distribution of luminescence intensity with a modulation period shorter by a factor of 2. It is shown that this effect of modulation frequency doubling in the spatially periodic pattern of the luminescence of color centers arises due to the nonlinear dependence of the luminescence intensity on the excitation light intensity. For F 3 + centers, upon luminescence excitation in the absorption band with λmax = 452 nm, the modulation frequency doubling is due to the saturation of the metastable triplet state of such a center.
