Abstract

Fifth generation (5G) networks are the base communication technology for connecting objects in the Internet of Things (IoT) environment. 5G is being developed to provide extremely large capacity, robust integrity, high bandwidth, and low latency. With the development and innovating new techniques for 5G-IoT, it surely will drive to new enormous security and privacy challenges. Consequently, secure techniques for data transmissions will be needed as the basis for 5G-IoT technology to address these arising challenges. Therefore, various traditional security mechanisms are provided for 5G-IoT technologies and most of them are built on mathematical foundations. With the growth of quantum technologies, traditional cryptographic techniques may be compromised due to their mathematical computation based construction. Quantum walks (QWs) is a universal quantum computational model, which possesses inherent cryptographic features that can be utilized to build efficient cryptographic mechanisms. In this paper, we use the features of quantum walk to construct a new S-box method which plays a significant role in block cipher techniques for 5G-IoT technologies. As an application of the presented S-box mechanism and controlled alternate quantum walks (CAQWs) for 5G-IoT technologies a new robust video encryption mechanism is proposed. As well as to fulfill needs of encryption for varied files in 5G-IoT, we utilize the features of quantum walk to propose a novel encryption strategy for secure transmission of sensitive files in 5G-IoT paradigm. The analyses and results of the proposed cryptosystems show that it has better security properties and efficacy in terms of cryptographic performance.

Providing End-to-End Security Using Quantum Walks in IoT Networks

Ahmed A. Abd El‐Latif, Bassem Abd-El-Atty, Salvador Elías Venegas-Andraca +5 more

Internet of Things acts an essential role in our everyday lives and it definitely has the potential to grow on the importance and revolutionize our future. However, the present communication technologies have several security related issues which is required to provide secure end to end connectivity among services. Moreover, due to recent, rapid growth of quantum technologies, most common security mechanisms considered secure today may be soon imperilled. Thus, the modern security mechanisms during their construction also require the power of quantum technologies to resist various potential attacks from quantum computers. Because of its characteristics, quantum walks (QW) is considered as a universal quantum computation paradigm that can be accepted as an excellent key generator. In this regard, in this paper a new lightweight image encryption scheme based on QW for secure data transfer in the internet of things platforms and wireless networking with edge computing is proposed. The introduced approach utilises the power of nonlinear dynamic behaviour of QW to construct permutation boxes and generates pseudo-random numbers for encrypting the plain image after dividing it into blocks. The results of the conducted simulation and numerical analyses confirm that the presented encryption algorithm is effective. The encrypted images have randomness properties, no useful data about the ciphered image can be obtained via analysing the correlation of adjacent pixels. Moreover, the entropy value is close to 8, the number of the pixel change rate is greater than 99.61%, and there is high sensitivity of the key parameters with large key space to resist various attacks.

Quantum Cryptography for Secure Data Transmission in IoT Networks

Sulakshana Sagar Malwade

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) has introduced significant security challenges, especially in safeguarding sensitive data transmitted across vast networks. Traditional cryptographic methods, though widely used, face increasing vulnerabilities in light of advancements in quantum computing. This research explores the application of quantum cryptography, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), to secure data transmission in IoT networks. Quantum cryptography offers a revolutionary approach by utilizing the principles of quantum mechanics, ensuring communication channels are resistant to eavesdropping and quantum attacks. Despite its promise, integrating quantum cryptography into resource-constrained IoT environments presents several technical challenges. This paper examines current quantum cryptographic techniques, their feasibility for IoT applications, and proposed solutions for overcoming integration hurdles. Case studies of real-world implementations and experimental results are discussed to highlight the effectiveness of these methods. The findings suggest that quantum cryptography, while still in its infancy for IoT, has the potential to provide robust security solutions in future networks.

Quantum-Resistant Reliable Authentication and Lightweight Security Scheme for 5G enabled Narrow Band Internet of Things

K P Vyshali Rao, M. Shanthi

The Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) paradigm has become a central point of the 5G networks. Though the NB-IoT mechanism has progressively been incorporated in the conventional LTE networks, notably the 5G network-based NB-IoT scheme realizes certain security breaches in recent times. Hence, the need for effective authentication and data transmission scheme is much more vital for security enhancement. Conventional security schemes follow both symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic techniques such as AES, ECC, DES and many other famous algorithms to assist in preventing against data security issues. All of these cryptographic techniques are inadequate to give protect against quantum attacks. This study plan to propose a secure quantum-resistant data transmission strategy and authentication for a 5G based NB-IoT scheme. The proposed method follows the implementation of data transmission strategy and access authentication concurrently for NB-IoT devices based on lattice-based attribute and fully homomorphic encryption techniques. The proposed scheme will not just minimize the network overhead but also provide robust security with privacy shielding and anti-quantum capability.

An Efficient Visually Meaningful Quantum Walks-Based Encryption Scheme for Secure Data Transmission on IoT and Smart Applications

Ahmed A. Abd El‐Latif, Abdullah M. Iliyasu, Bassem Abd-El-Atty

Smart systems and technologies have become integral parts of modern society. Their ubiquity makes it paramount to prioritise securing the privacy of data transferred between smart devices. Visual encryption is a technique employed to obscure images by rendering them meaningless to evade attention during transmission. However, the astounding computing power ascribed to quantum technology implies that even the best visually encrypted systems can be effortlessly violated. Consequently, the physical realisation quantum hardware portends great danger for visually encrypted date on smart systems. To circumvent this, our study proposes the integration of quantum walks (QWs) as a cryptographic mechanism to forestall violation of the integrity of images on smart systems. Specifically, we use QW first to substitute the original image and to subsequently permutate and embed it onto the reference image. Based on this structure, our proposed quantum walks visually meaningful cryptosystem facilities confidential transmission of visual information. Simulation-based experiments validate the performance of the proposed system in terms of visual quality, efficiency, robustness, and key space sensitivity, and by that, its potential to safeguard smart systems now and as we transition to the quantum era.
