Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in an extended ladder system

Ying‐Yu Niu, Rong Wang, Ming‐Hui Qiu

The rovibrational dynamics of an extended ladder stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) system through permanent dipole moment transitions is investigated theoretically using the time-dependent quantum-wave-packet method for the ground electronic state of the HF molecule. The calculated results show that nearly 100$%$ of the population can be transferred to the target state through (1+2), (1+3), and (2+2) STIRAP schemes. By choosing a suitable excitation pathway, the effects of the background states on the final population of the target state can be removed. For the multiphoton STIRAP process, the one-photon overtone pump scheme is more efficient than the two-photon pump scheme in controlling the population transfer to the target state.

Adiabatic conversion from ultracold atoms to heteronuclear tetrameric molecule A3B

Li Guan-Qiang, Peng Ping, Cao Zhen-Zhou +1 more

We present a theoretical scheme for conversion from ultracold atoms to heteronuclear tetrameric molecule A3B via Efimov resonace-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (ER-STIRAP). The dark state solutions of the system are obtianed for two different pathways. For the first pathway, the intermediate state is populated by homonuclear Efimov trimer A3, and the second one by heteronuclear Efimov trimer A2B. The feasibility and the effectiveness of the scheme are also verified. Meanwhile, we investigate the effects of external field parameters, including the intensity of associated laser pulses, its width, magnetic coupling strength and its detuning, on the fomation of heteronuclear tetrameric molecules. By comparison, it is found that the ultimate yield of the tetrameric molecules for the second pathway is less than ones for the first pathway. In addition, the effects of the intrinsic nolinearity of the system and the spontaneous decay in the intermediate state on the tetramer formation are discussed.

Non-Hermitian shortcut to stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

Boyan T. Torosov, Giuseppe Della Valle, Stefano Longhi

We propose a non-Hermitian generalization of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP), which allows one to increase speed and fidelity of the adiabatic passage. This is done by adding balanced imaginary (gain and loss) terms in the diagonal (bare energy) terms of the Hamiltonian and choosing them such that they cancel exactly the nonadiabatic couplings, providing in this way an effective shortcut to adiabaticity. Remarkably, for a STIRAP using delayed Gaussian-shaped pulses in the counterintuitive scheme the imaginary terms of the Hamiltonian turn out to be time independent. A possible physical realization of non-Hermitian STIRAP, based on light transfer in three evanescently coupled optical waveguides, is proposed.
