Abstract

We present a theoretical scheme for conversion from ultracold atoms to heteronuclear tetrameric molecule A3B via Efimov resonace-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (ER-STIRAP). The dark state solutions of the system are obtianed for two different pathways. For the first pathway, the intermediate state is populated by homonuclear Efimov trimer A3, and the second one by heteronuclear Efimov trimer A2B. The feasibility and the effectiveness of the scheme are also verified. Meanwhile, we investigate the effects of external field parameters, including the intensity of associated laser pulses, its width, magnetic coupling strength and its detuning, on the fomation of heteronuclear tetrameric molecules. By comparison, it is found that the ultimate yield of the tetrameric molecules for the second pathway is less than ones for the first pathway. In addition, the effects of the intrinsic nolinearity of the system and the spontaneous decay in the intermediate state on the tetramer formation are discussed.

Formation of a heteronuclear tetramer A3B via Efimov-resonance-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

Guan-Qiang Li, Ping Peng

We investigate the formation of a heteronuclear tetramer ${A}_{3}B$ by an Efimov-resonance-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme, which is considered a viable means of creating the homonuclear tetramer ${A}_{4}$ [H. Jing and Y. Jiang, Phys. Rev. A 77, 065601 (2008)]. The atom-molecule dark-state solution for the system is derived, and the adiabatic conversion from atoms to heteronuclear tetramers is studied via the concept of adiabatic fidelity. In addition, the effects of external field parameters (including Rabi pulse strength, width, and single photon detuning) on the conversion are discussed.

We study the formation of stable homonuclear and heteronuclear pentamers from ultracold atoms via a generalized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme. The atom-molecule dark-state solutions for the system are obtained, and the linear instability and the adiabatic fidelity of the dark state are investigated. We also discuss the effects of external field parameters on the conversion efficiency.

Effects of external field parameters on conversion from ultracold atoms to heteronuclear triatomic molecules

Guan-Qiang Li, Peng Ping

We investigate the effects of external field parameters, including the strength of Rabi pulse, its width, and single-photon detuning, on conversion from ultracold atoms to heteronuclear triatomic molecules by two-photon stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. It is found that the conversion efficiency of the system decreases first with the strength of the Stokes pulse increasing, then oscillates, and finally approaches a stable value, which is less than 1. But for the pump pulse, the efficiency first increases with the increase of the pulse intensity, and then approaches 1 quickly. The results show that the two pulses play different roles in the conversion. The pulse width can not only determine the final conversion efficiency, but also be used to reflect the time needed for stable conversion. The system has a higher efficiency of conversion for red detuning pump laser, but the blue detuning is not conducive to the formation of the molecules. In addition, the differences of the adiabaticity and conversion efficiency among different reaction pathways are discussed.

Formation of ultracold heteronuclear polyatomic molecule: multi-path scheme and interference effect

Fu-Quan Dou, Jiahui Zhang

Abstract We investigate the creation of stable heteronuclear polyatomic molecules based on the three-body and higher order Efimov state via a generalized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme. Within the mean-field approximation, we establish the multi-path conversion models and derive the dark state solutions. The multi-path atom–polymer conversion dynamics and interference effect are studied. We show that the multi-path constructive interference permits higher conversion efficiency, resulting in a state that is closer to the ideal dark state solutions. The effects on the conversion efficiency of the single-photon detuning, the strength of the Rabi pulse, the spontaneous emission from intermediate states and the interaction between the particles are also discussed. Our results not only include the previous ultracold molecule formation techniques, such as the single-path polyatomic molecule, double-path pentamer and triple-path trimer, but also open a possible route for the multi-path formation of more complex polyatomic molecules.

We investigate the creation of stable homonuclear and heteronuclear $N$-body polymer molecules from ultracold atoms via a generalized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme. The atom-molecule dark-state solutions for the system are obtained and are found to satisfy universal algebraic equations. We discuss the linear instability and the adiabatic fidelity of the dark state. We also explore the effects of the interparticle interactions, the atomic number of the polymer, and external field parameters on the conversion process.

Coherent atom-tetramer conversion: Bright-state versus dark-state schemes

Hui Jing, Yurong Jiang

The molecular tetramers can be created in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate via a bright-state or a dark-state (dimer- or trimer-state-intermediated) scheme. Only the later scheme, realized by the Efimov-resonance-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, permits the existence of a generalized atom-molecular dark state and thereby leads to stable atom-tetramer conversion.
