Abstract

In this paper, we numerically demonstrate that efficient spectral compression and soliton self-frequency shifting in a photonic crystal fiber are simultaneously realized. The proposed fiber is applied to all-optical quantization and an effective quantization number of 3.63-bit is achieved.

Optical spectrum compression employing time-dependent filtering and its application in optical quantization based on soliton self-frequency shift

Zhiyao Zhang, Xuyan Zhang, Lingjie Zhang +2 more

A novel optical spectrum compression scheme based on time-dependent filtering is proposed and demonstrated. The spectrum compression is realized by using nonlinear polarization rotation effect to achieve power-dependent filtering of a chirped soliton pulse. In the experiment, a single-stage spectrum compression unit based on the proposed scheme is employed in the soliton self-frequency shift-based optical quantization system to improve the quantization resolution. The experimental results show that an average output spectrum width of 1.5 nm is obtained using the proposed scheme, which is 68% of that using the traditional comb-like fiber scheme. In addition, the quantization resolution using the proposed scheme is 5.1 bits, which is 0.6 bit higher than that using a single-stage spectrum compression unit based on the traditional comb-like fiber structure.

Bi-directional comb-fiber architecture for resolution improvement of optical quantization employing soliton self-frequency shift and spectral compression

Xuyan Zhang, Zhiyao Zhang, Heping Li +1 more

We demonstrate a high-resolution quantization scheme based on soliton self-frequency shift (SSFS) and spectral compression in a bi-directional comb-fiber architecture. Our scheme is composed of a Sagnac-loop-based mirror and a comblike combination of two sections of interleaved single-mode fibers (SMFs) and high nonlinear fibers (HNLFs). The Sagnac-loop-based mirror is placed at the terminal of the bus line to reflect the optical pulses back to the bus line to achieve single-stage SSFS and three-stage spectral compression. Quantization with a resolution of 6.2-bit is obtained in the experiment, which is 1.2-bit higher than that of its uni-directional counterpart. Our bidirectional scheme can achieve higher quantization resolution with a small volume and a low cost compared with its uni-directional counterpart.

Octave-spanning quantum frequency conversion using cascaded Raman shifts in H2-filled hollow core photonic crystal fibers

Walker D. Larson, C De Keyser, Trevor Courtney +1 more

Efficient quantum frequency conversion (QFC) across large spectral gaps remains a challenge for quantum networking. We theoretically investigate a cascaded QFC in hydrogen-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fiber (HC-PCF) to convert telecom photons (1550 nm) to the visible spectrum (676 nm) via two anti-Stokes Raman shifts. Although simultaneous phase matching is impractical across such a wide window, operating in a high-pressure regime overcomes phase mismatches because the high-gain Raman coherence wave has a shorter spatial extent than the nonlinear coherence length. Maxwell-Bloch simulations show conversion efficiencies exceeding 50%. This approach offers a flexible, low-loss path for integrating disparate quantum technologies in a single fiber platform.
