Suppression of static stripe formation by next-neighbor hopping

Bruce Normand, A. P. Kampf

We show from real-space Hartree-Fock calculations within the extended Hubbard model that next-nearest neighbor ${(t}^{\ensuremath{'}})$ hopping processes act to suppress the formation of static charge stripes. This result is confirmed by investigating the evolution of charge-inhomogeneous corral and stripe phases with increasing ${t}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ of both signs. We propose that large ${t}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ values in YBCO prevent static stripe formation, while anomalously small ${t}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ in LSCO provides an additional reason for the appearance of static stripes only in these systems.

Stripe Formation in Electron-Doped Cuprates

A. Sadori, M. Grilli

We investigate the formation of charge domain walls in an electron-doped extended Hubbard model for the superconducting cuprates. Within an unrestricted Hartree-Fock approach, extended by slave bosons to obtain a better treatment of strong correlations, we demonstrate the occurrence of stripes in the (1,1) and (1,-1) directions having one doped electron per stripe site. The different filling, direction, and width of these electron-doped stripes with respect to those obtained in the hole-doped systems have interesting observable consequences.
